Oliver County is a county in the state of North Dakota in the United States . The county seat is Center .

The county is located just west of the geographic center of North Dakota and has an area of 1,894 square kilometers, of which 20 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: McLean County , Burleigh County , Morton County, and Mercer Counties .
history
Oliver County was formed on March 12, 1885, and finally organized on May 18 of the same year. It was named after Harry S. Oliver , an early politician and member of the Legislative Assembly of the Dakota Territory .
One place in the county is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as of March 29, 2018, the Cross Ranch Archeological District .

As of the 2000 census , Oliver County had 2,065 people in 791 households and 604 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.58 percent white, 0.15 percent African American, 1.26 percent Native American and 0.10 percent Asian. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.63 percent of the population.
Of the 791 households, 35.5 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 69.2 percent were married couples living together, 3.9 percent were single mothers, 23.6 percent were non-families, 21.0 percent were single households and 10.7 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.05.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 27.4 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 4.7 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.5 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 30.1 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 14.2 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 107.5 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 106.2 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 36,650 , and the median income for a family is $ 45,430. Males had a median income of $ 40,577 versus $ 19,015 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,271. 11.2 percent of families and 14.9 percent families lived below the poverty line. Of these, 23.6 percent were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 13.9 percent were people over 65 years of age.
