Billings County is a county in the state of North Dakota in the United States . The county seat is Medora .

The county is located in southwest North Dakota, about 45 km to the west of the Montana border and has an area of ​​2,987 square kilometers, of which 5 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: McKenzie County , Dunn County , Stark County , Slope County, and Golden Valley Counties .

The Heart River has its source in the county.

history

Billings County was formed on January 10, 1879, the organization took place on May 4, 1886. It was named after Frederick H. Billings , the president of the Northern Pacific Railroad .

According to the 2000 census , Billings County had 888 people. None of them lived in collective accommodation; the inhabitants lived in 366 households and 255 families. The population density was 0.3 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.8 percent white, 0.1 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian and 0.1 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.9 percent were descended from two or more races.
