Dickinson (also Pleasant Valley Siding ) is with 16,010 inhabitants (2000) the seventh largest city in the US state of North Dakota and the seat of the county administration of Stark County . It is located in the southwest of the state.

The city has a total area of 24.6 square kilometers and is located on the recreational area Patterson Lake and the Heart River , a 290 kilometer tributary of the Missouri River . The Theodore Roosevelt National Park begins 40 kilometers west of the city .

According to the 2000 census, Dickinson has 16,010 residents, 6,517 households and 4,020 families. The population density is 652.7 inhabitants per km 2 . Dickinson has Dickinson State University located. It was 1916 as Dickinson State College founded in 1987 and received the full status of a university. Dickinson State University is part of the North Dakota University System (NDUS) , a network of public colleges and universities in North Dakota.
Attractions
Dickinson is home to the Dakota Dinosaur Museum , which opened in 1994, and the Dickinson Museum Center, with historic buildings from the pioneering days of settlement on the US prairie.
