Sheridan County is a county in the state of North Dakota in the United States . The county seat is McClusky .
geography
The county is roughly on the geographic center of North Dakota and has an area of 2605 square kilometers, of which 88 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: McHenry County , Pierce County , Wells County , Kidder County , Burleigh County, and McLean County .
history
Sheridan County was formed on January 4, 1873 and dissolved in 1892. It was formed again on December 24, 1908. It was named after Philip Henry Sheridan , a major general of the Northern States in the American Civil War .
Two of the county's structures are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of April 1, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Sheridan County had 1,710 people in 731 households and 515 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 99.24 percent white, 0.12 percent African American , 0.41 percent Indian and 0.06 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.18 percent were descended from two or more races . 0.35 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 731 households, 25.0 percent had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 62.8 percent were married couples living together, 4.4 percent were single mothers, 29.5 percent were non-families, 27.5 percent were single households and 16.7 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.80.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 21.4 percent of residents under the age of 18, 3.8 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 19.9 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 28.3 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 26.6 percent were 65 years of age or over. The mean age was 48 years. For every 100 females there were 105.8 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 104.3 men statistically.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 24,450 , and the median income for a family is $ 30,156. Males had a median income of $ 21,094 versus $ 14,327 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,283. 16.0 percent of families and 21.0 percent families lived below the poverty line. Of these, 24.9 percent were children or adolescents under the age of 18 and 18.3 percent were people over 65 years of age.
