Wesley Abner D'Ewart (born October 1, 1889 in Worcester , Massachusetts , † September 2, 1973 in Livingston , Montana ) was an American politician . Between 1945 and 1955 he represented the state of Montana in the US House of Representatives .

Early years

Wesley D'Ewart attended public schools in Worcester and then Washington State College . In 1910 he moved to Park County , Montana. There he worked in the forest administration. But he also dealt with animal husbandry and became a farmer and businessman.

Promotion to Congress

Politically, D'Ewart became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1937 and 1939 he was a member of the House of Representatives in Montana , and from 1941 to 1945 he was a member of the State Senate . After the death of Congressman James F. O'Connor on January 15, 1945, by-elections were held for the vacant seat in the US House of Representatives, which D'Ewart could win. After he was confirmed in office in the following years, Wesley D'Ewart could remain in Congress between June 5, 1945 and January 3, 1955 . In 1954 he no longer ran for the House of Representatives. Instead, he ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate .

Another résumé

Between 1955 and 1958, D'Ewart worked for both the United States Department of Agriculture and the United States Department of the Interior . In 1960 he ran unsuccessfully for governor of Montana. He already failed in his party's primary election to Donald Grant Nutter . From 1966 to 1969 D'Ewart was a member of a commission of the western states of the USA, which dealt with the issues of water management ( Water Council ). Wesley D'Ewart died in Livingston in 1973.
