William W. Dixon

William Wirt Dixon (born June 3, 1838 in New York City , † November 13, 1910 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the state of Montana in the US House of Representatives .

Career

In 1843 Dixon moved to Illinois and in 1849 to Keokuk , Iowa , where he studied law. In 1858 he was admitted to the bar. In the course of the following years he came to the Montana Territory via the states of Tennessee , Arkansas , California and Nevada . There he lived first in Helena and later in Deer Lodge . Politically, he became a member of the Democratic Party .

From 1871 to 1872 Dixon was a member of the Territorial House of Representatives. He served on the Montana Constituent Assemblies in 1884 and 1889. His main occupation was a lawyer. Between March 4, 1891 and March 3, 1893 he completed a legislative term as a member of Congress . After his re-election failed, he continued to practice as a lawyer. Its seat went to Charles S. Hartman . Dixon also ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the US Senate . The politician, who died in Los Angeles in November 1910, was buried in Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington, DC .
