Steven David "Steve" Daines (* 20th August 1962 in Van Nuys , California ) is an American politician of the Republican Party . Since 2015 he has represented the state of Montana in the US Senate ; previously he had been a member of the United States House of Representatives since 2013 .

Career

Steve Daines attended Bozeman High School in Montana and then studied until 1984 at Montana State University in Bozeman , where he was trained as a chemical engineer . He then worked for the Cincinnati- based consumer goods company Procter & Gamble for 13 years . He worked for this company in China for six years . In 1997 he left Procter & Gamble to join the family-owned construction company. Since 2000 he worked for the software company RightNow Technologies , which was based in Bozeman. He became its vice president for North America and the Asia-Pacific region. Politically, he joined the Republican Party . He was a supporter of President Ronald Reagan . In August 1984 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Dallas , where Reagan was nominated for re-election. In 2008 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of lieutenant governor of Montana.

In the congressional elections of 2012 Daines was in statewide constituency of Montana in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC chosen, where he succeeds on Jan. 3, 2013 Denny Rehberg took, who unsuccessfully ran for a seat in the US Senate. In the election he got 53 percent of the vote against 43 percent, which Kim Gillian of the Democratic Party achieved. In Congress he then became a member of the Committee on Homeland Security , the Committee on Natural Resources and the Committee on Transport and Infrastructure . In November 2014, Daines ran for the US Senate election and won the seat of the no longer-running John Walsh against the Democrat Amanda Curtis , after which he moved to the Senate on January 3, 2015 within Congress. In the 2020 election , Daines stands for re-election. In the Democratic primary, the previous Governor of Montana, Steve Bullock , is running for this mandate.

Steve Daines is married and has four children. In his private life he lives in Bozeman .
