Henry L. Myers

Henry Lee Myers (born October 9, 1862 in Boonville , Cooper County , Missouri , †  November 11, 1943 in Billings , Montana ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ) who represented the state of Montana in the US Senate .

Henry Myers received his education at private schools such as the Cooper Institute and the Boonville Academy . He then studied law , was admitted to the bar in 1884 and began practicing law in his hometown of Boonville. In 1893 he moved to Hamilton , Montana; two years later he became a Ravalli County Attorney , which he remained until 1899. Between 1907 and 1911 he served as a judge for the fourth judicial district of Montana.

His political career had already begun with membership in the State Senate between 1899 and 1903. In 1910, Myers was then put up by the Democratic Party as a candidate for the seat in the US Senate, which had previously been held by the no longer running Republican Thomas Henry Carter . He won the election, was confirmed in office in 1916 and thus belonged to Congress from March 4, 1911 to March 3, 1923; In 1922 he did not apply for re-election. During his tenure in the Senate, he served as the Committee Chairman of the Committee on Irrigation and Reclamation of Arid Lands .

In the year of his retirement from the Senate, Henry Myers settled in Billings, where he again worked as a lawyer. He was appointed associate judge on the Montana Supreme Court in 1927 and remained there for two years before returning to his private practice.
