Light saturation point

The light saturation point ( LSP ) indicates the point from which the photosynthetic output of a plant can no longer be increased by increasing the light intensity, i.e. the oxygen production rate remains constant.

If the light intensity is increased above the light saturation point, oxygen stress in the plant can occur, which damages the photosynthetic apparatus ( photo destruction ) and thus reduces the photosynthetic output and can also mean the death of the plant.

The light saturation point is not the same for every plant; it differs, for example, in shade plants (low SPP), sun plants (high SPP) and C4 plants (very high SPP).
