The Angel Stadium of Anaheim (called "The Big A") is a baseball stadium in Anaheim , a city in the metropolitan area of Los Angeles , California . It is home to the Los Angeles Angels . Its capacity is 45,037 people.
history
Construction of the stadium began in 1964, and the California Angels moved to their new home in 1966 after playing at Dodger Stadium for four years .
The Angel Stadium was built on an area of 160 hectares. Originally used for agricultural purposes, the property is located in southeast Anaheim near the intersection of three highways. The Honda Center (formerly Arrowhead Pond), where the Anaheim Ducks play in the National Hockey League (NHL), is near the stadium.
The Angels played their first friendly match on April 9, 1966 in the new stadium. Opponents were the San Francisco Giants . The first official game took place on April 19, 1966 against the Chicago White Sox .
The first work on the stadium began on August 31, 1964 and the inauguration took place on April 19, 1966. The cost to build was $ 24 million. The renovation from 1997 to 1999 cost $ 118 million.
The stadium was host of the MLB All-Star Games in 1967 and in 1989 and 2010. Its previous names were "Anaheim Stadium" (1966-1997) and "Edison International Field of Anaheim" (1997-2003). The NFL team Los Angeles Rams played here from 1981 to 1994 and moved to St. Louis , Missouri in 1995.
