The Miller Park is a ballpark in the district of West Milwaukee of the American city of Milwaukee in the state of Wisconsin . It is the home stadium of the National League team of the Milwaukee Brewers ( Major League Baseball ) and has a closable roof structure.
history
Miller Park opened on April 6, 2001, replacing Milwaukee County Stadium as the Brewers ' venue , which the team used from 1970 to 2000. The Brewers won the opening game against the Cincinnati Reds 5: 4 in front of 42,024 spectators. The then US President George W. Bush threw the so-called first pitch as part of the game . The stadium currently has 41,900 seats. In 2002 the MLB All-Star Game was played here.
particularities
The roof structure weighs 12,000 tons, is 175 feet above the pitch and can be opened or closed in ten minutes.
The most famous feature of the stadium is the slide behind Center Field, called Bernie's Dugout . There the mascot of the Brewers Bernie Brewer always slips down after a defeated Brewers home run .
During the construction, a large crane collapsed, killing three workers. In addition to other technical problems, this caused construction to be delayed by two years compared to the planned opening for the 1999 baseball season.
