The Milwaukee Brewers are a Major League Baseball team of the National League . Until 1997 the Brewers were a member of the American League , but changed the league in the course of the subsequent expansion. Now the Brewers play in the National League and there in the Central Division .

Their stadium is Miller Park in Milwaukee , Wisconsin . They took their name Brewers , in German beer brewers , to honor the brewing tradition in Milwaukee, which was created there by the many German immigrants. The stadium, Miller Park, is named after the American beer chain Miller .

history

The franchise was founded in Seattle in 1969 as Seattle Pilots , where the team only played a year before it was taken over in 1970 by entrepreneurs Allan H. "Bud" Selig and Edmund Fitzgerald and moved to Milwaukee under the new name Milwaukee Brewers . In 1972 the franchise moved from the American League West to the American League East; in 1994 in the newly formed American League Central and in 1998 finally in the National League Central, where it still plays today.

In 1981, the Milwaukee Brewers won the title in the American League East Division and subsequently lost to the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series. In the following year 1982, the Brewers had their only appearance in the World Series . They lost the series against the St. Louis Cardinals 3-4 .

In 2008 they lost the National League Division Series to the Philadelphia Phillies . In 2011, the Milwaukee Brewers were able to prevail in the National League Division Series against the Arizona Diamondbacks , but lost the National League Championship against the St. Louis Cardinals .

It wasn't until 2018 that the Brewers were able to claim a place in the postseason for themselves. At the end of the season, with a win-loss record of 95-67, they were tied with the Chicago Cubs , whom they defeated in a tiebreaker game on October 1, 2018 and thus fought for first place in the National League Central.
