The main stand

The Citizens Bank Park is a baseball stadium in Philadelphia in the US state of Pennsylvania . It is the home of the Philadelphia Phillies , a major league baseball team in the National League . The stadium currently holds 43,647 spectators.

history

The stadium replaced the now demolished Veterans Stadium , which was until then the home of the Phillies. However, it was not a pure ballpark and the Philadelphia Eagles football team also played their home games there. In 1998 the state parliament of Pennsylvania decided to replace the stadium as well as the Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh with new stadiums. Originally there were efforts to build the stadium in the city center. After objections from local residents, the stadium was eventually built in a southern suburb near Lincoln Financial Field . On June 17, 2003, it was announced that the name rights for the next 25 years had been sold to Citizens Bank for USD 95 million . In April 2004, the Phillies were finally able to move into their new home.

Events

The first concert at Citizens Bank Park was that of Jimmy Buffett on August 25, 2005. In the meantime, Bon Jovi and The Police have also had a concert in the stadium. In 2009 Billy Joel and Elton John each gave a concert here, on July 30th and August 1st.

On January 2, 2012, the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers contested the fifth NHL Winter Classic in history in the stadium.
