The playing field of the Globe Life Field

The Globe Life Field is a baseball - Stadium in the American US city of Arlington in the state of Texas . It is the home ground of the Texas Rangers baseball franchise from Major League Baseball (MLB). The opening was planned for March 23, 2020, but had to be postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic . Globe Life and Accident Insurance Company, a subsidiary of McKinney- based Torchmark Corporation, is the stadium's name sponsor until 2048. The new stadium is being built across the street south of the previous venue, Globe Life Park .

On May 20, 2016, the Rangers announced that they were leaving Globe Life Park in Arlington. The new stadium is being built in a public-private partnership and has a closable roof. HKS, Inc. was named an Architect on January 5, 2017.

On January 31, 2019, the Rangers announced that the Globe Life Field playing area would be covered with artificial turf from Shaw Sports Turf, making them one of only four MLB teams that do not play their home games on natural turf.

The Rangers named the weather as the reason for the lower number of visitors than in other large metropolises. In Globe Life Park there were repeated delays in rain and high temperatures. That's why the rangers suggest building their new park with a roof. In contrast to its predecessors, the center field of the new stadium will face northeast and not southeast.

With the new stadium, a new shopping center as well as a Loews hotel and a stadium village are to be built. The Rangers have also planned to make Globe Life Park part of the Texas Live! Complex.

The plans to build the stadium have generated mixed reactions. The new stadium will provide a more comfortable environment for watching baseball, but will expand the existing taxes on paying for the AT&T Stadium .

On December 14, 2019, part of the roof under construction caught fire.

Globe Life Field was originally scheduled to open on March 23, 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the start of the 2020 Major League baseball season was delayed by several months. The first event at Globe Life Field was a high school graduation ceremony.

The Rangers' first regular season game at Globe Life Field took place on July 24, 2020, which they won 1-0 against the Colorado Rockies . On July 21st and 22nd, the Rangers played two test matches against the Rockies at Globe Life Field.

Public reaction

After the Rangers unveiled Globe Life Field in June 2020, the exterior of Globe Life Field was criticized and ridiculed online for its ugliness, especially when compared to the initial depictions of the ballpark.
