Seth Adam Meyers (born December 28, 1973 in Evanston , Illinois ) is an American actor , voice actor , producer and comedian . He was the head writer for Saturday Night Live , where he also appeared from 2001 to 2014. Since 2014 he has hosted the show Late Night with Seth Meyers on NBC .

Meyers was born on December 28, 1973 to French teacher Hilary Claire (nee Olson) and Laurence Meyers' Jr. Meyers has roots in the Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden and England, Croatia and Israel through his ancestors. He grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire and graduated from Manchester High School West. He then graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston where he joined the Phi Gamma Delta Association.

Meyer's younger brother Josh Meyers is also an actor.

In July 2013, Meyers and his long-time girlfriend Alexi Ashe got engaged. The two married on September 1, 2013. Their sons were born in 2016 and 2018.

Career

Before joining SNL (Saturday Night Live), Meyers started his comedy career as part of the improvisation group Mee-Ow at Northwestern University . After that he was part of the improvisation group Boom Chicago , which is based in Amsterdam. His brother was also part of this group.

However, Meyers had his breakthrough on Saturday Night Live . From 2001 to 2014 he was part of the ensemble, from 2005 he was writing supervisor. He auditioned for the role of co-host on the Weekend Update Sketches in 2004 , but Amy Poehler was preferred over him. When presenter Tina Fey left the ensemble, Meyers not only became head writer in 2006, but also presented the sketch. Poehler later also left the ensemble and from 2008 to 2013 Meyers was the sole moderator of the weekend update sketches. From 2013 he got a new co-presenter with Cecily Strong.

In 2015 he developed the parody documentary series Documentary Now! With colleagues from Saturday Night Live, Fred Armisen, Bill Hader and Rhys Thomas . , for which Meyers also worked as a writer and producer.

From Jimmy Fallon , who switched to host the Tonight Show , he took over NBC's late night show in February 2014 .

In 2014 Meyers was the presenter of the 66th Primetime Emmy Awards. In 2018 he was selected as moderator for the 75th Golden Globe Awards . The moderation was considered difficult in advance, as sexual abuse and harassment in the entertainment industry were an important topic as a result of the Weinstein scandal and the MeToo movement. Meyers prominently treated the subject in a snappy way in his opening monologue . His monologue was rated as appropriate.
