Get On Up is an American film biography of Tate Taylor from the year 2014 . The film tells the life story of the American musician James Brown on several time levels . The main actor is Chadwick Boseman .

James Joseph Brown was born in Barnwell (South Carolina) in 1933 to a poor family. At the age of five, Brown comes to live with his aunt Honey. He breaks the law several times and is jailed for it. In prison he gains a lot of interest in music.

Brown plays in the vocal group The Famous Flames, founded by Bobby Byrd . When Ben Bart, the president of Universal Attractions Agency, one of New York's largest talent agencies, noticed him, it was Brown's breakthrough.
