Tate Taylor (born June 3, 1969 in Jackson , Mississippi ) is an American director , screenwriter , producer and actor .

Life

Tate Taylor was born and raised in the city of Jackson in the US state of Mississippi. As a young adult, he moved to the East Village , New York . He lived there for a while until he moved to Los Angeles in 1996 . There he finally entered the film industry as an actor with smaller roles in films such as Romy and Michele (1997) or the short film Stick Up (1997).

After several years working as an actor, he directed the short film Chicken Party for the first time in 2003 . In 2008, the feature film Pretty Ugly People was his feature film directorial debut. He also acted as a screenwriter and producer in the film and also had a small acting role.

He is good friends with the author Kathryn Stockett , which is why he also directed the literary film adaptation of her novel The Help in 2011 .
