Grace and Frankie is an American comedy - TV series , which on 8 May 2015 from the video-on-demand -Anbieter Netflix was released internationally for the first time as a complete season. The series was developed by Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris. The title roles are played by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin . In May 2015, Netflix approved a second season of the format with a release date in 2016; Even before the release of season 2, the provider extended the series in December 2015 for a third season, which started on March 24, 2017. On January 19, 2018, Netflix released Season 4.
Three days before the release of the fifth season, the series was extended for a sixth season in January 2019. In September 2019, the order for a seventh season followed, with which the series will then end.

Over dinner, Robert and Sol, the long-time spouses of Grace and Frankie, reveal that they have not only run a law firm for twenty years, but also have a same-sex love affair with each other. Both men want to enjoy their retirement together, get married and therefore divorce their wives. The confession of love comes as a surprise to the protagonists. Reluctantly, Grace and Frankie move into their own beach house in La Jolla, California. A turbulent yet warm friendship develops between the two women, which couldn't be more different. Grace is a confident businesswoman. Frankie loves esotericism and doesn’t leave the flower power days behind.

In 2016 Lily Tomlin (Frankie) was nominated for the Golden Globe in the category Best Actress in a Series - Comedy or Musical. At the Primetime Emmy Award she was nominated for best leading actress in a comedy series four years in a row from 2015 to 2018.

In March 2014, Netflix decided to produce a 13-episode season with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin in the title roles. In addition to the series inventors Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris, Fonda, Tomlin, Paula Weinstein, Tate Taylor, Dana Goldberg, David Ellison and Marcy Ross also produced the format. Filming for the first season began in Los Angeles in August 2014 and ended in November.
The casting for the series began in June 2014. First, said to Martin Sheen to play the role of Robert, the husband of Grace. Sam Waterston was later cast as a Sol. Then the roles of the other actors followed.
