Since the disease initially went unnoticed, it also infected her daughter and their son Jake, who was born three years later. The HIV infection was only discovered when daughter Ariel developed AIDS at the age of four and died in 1988. Due to the loss of her daughter and her experiences in the fight against the disease, his wife and two friends founded the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. Elisabeth Glaser died in 1994.
His son Jake Glaser lives with the disease to this day, including a mutation in the CCR5 gene inherited from his father helping to delay the onset of the disease. Jake has carried on his mother's legacy and works for the foundation she founded.
