Starsky & Hutch is an American action comedy from 2004 based on the television series of the same name from the 1970s. Directed by Todd Phillips . The main roles are Ben Stiller as David Starsky and Owen Wilson as Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson .
action
The film is set in the fictional city of Bay City in the 1970s and is about the two police officers David Starsky and Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson, who try as involuntary partners to convict drug trafficker Reese Feldman. This is made more difficult by the differences between the two characters: While Starsky strives to be an accurate, dutiful cop who fights every crime, no matter how small, and obeys all the rules, Hutch takes his job and the laws more relaxed and is first and foremost mindful of its own merits. The unlikely duo is supported by the crook Huggy Bear , who serves them as an informant.
background
The film is considered a prequel to the television series produced from 1975 to 1979, as it shows how the two partners come together and solve their first big case. In the end, the two original actors Paul Michael Glaser (Starsky) and David Soul (Hutch) have a cameo alongside Stiller and Wilson.
Production costs were estimated at 60 million US dollars . The film grossed approx. 88.2 million US dollars in cinemas in the USA, plus approx. 75 million US dollars in other countries.

Reviews
“At the end of the seventies, the TV series of the same name about the two police officers and their 'tomato with stripes', the red and white 1974 Ford Gran Torino , was a big hit thanks to the extremely funny synchronization. So now the duo is investigating on the cinema screen. But despite the well-rehearsed team Ben Stiller / Owen Wilson (' My bride, her father and me ', ' The Royal Tenenbaums ' and ' Zoolander '), most of the gags here are more than tired. The real 'Starsky & Hutch' actors Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul have a guest appearance, but they can't save director Todd Phillips ' dreary slap (' Road Trip ', ' Old School '). "
“Colorful film adaptation of the popular US television series 'Starsky and Hutch', in which the two title characters convict a drug lord of murder. The solidly constructed crime thriller plot and the detail-loving 1970s set comfort over some follies, so that the film entertains passably overall. "
