Fred Williamson (born March 5, 1938 in Gary , Indiana ) is an American actor , director and former football player .

Williamson began a career as a football player in the 1950s at Northwestern University . In 1960 he played as a professional for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League (NFL). A year later he moved to the new American Football League (AFL), where he played for the Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs . In 1961, 1962 and 1963 he was a member of the AFL All-Star Team. With the Chiefs he won the AFL Championship Game in 1966 against the Buffalo Bills with 31: 7.

He began his acting career in the late 1960s on American television with guest roles in various series. In 1970 he made his first appearance as an actor in the movie M * A * S * H . Many leading and supporting roles in film and television followed. In the 1980s, Williamson made a number of roles in Italian films. Since the mid-1970s, he has also directed, from time to time, strictly commercial action films in which he himself played the leading role. To date he has been responsible for 22 films.
