Ornithogalum creticum is a plant from the family of asparagus plants (Asparagaceae).

description

Ornithogalum creticum is a perennial , herbaceous bulb plant that usually reaches heights of (20) 30 to 50 (80) centimeters. The petals are light greenish inside and have a green outer stripe, which consists of 4 to 6 separate green nerves. They are 7 to 11 millimeters tall and the edges are rolled up lengthways. The ovary is spherical, 2.5 to 3.3 millimeters in size, and has 13 to 18 ovules per subject. The surface of the seeds is wrinkled and uneven. The stylus are (3) 3.5 to 4.5 (5) millimeters in size and green.

The flowering period extends from (May) June to September.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28.

Occurrence

Ornithogalum creticum occurs on Crete and Karpathos , on Thira , Astypalea and on numerous small islands in the southeastern Cyclades . It lives in Phrygana and in crevices at altitudes from 0 to 1500 (2000) meters.
