Knight Rider is a series based on the 1980 television series of the same title and the 2008 television movie Knight Rider . Justin Bruening plays Mike Traceur / Knight, who is the estranged son of Michael Knight. Deanna Russo plays Sarah Graiman, Traceur's former girlfriend and daughter of Charles Graiman ( Bruce Davison ), creator of the new KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand). Like the television film Knight Rider , theseries doesnot make any reference to the previous offshoot Team Knight Rider or the films Knight Rider 2000 and Knight Rider 2010 .
action
The story takes place 25 years after the original Knight Rider series. Mike Traceur (later changing his name to Michael Knight), the son of the original Michael Knight , will become the next generation driver for KITT (Knight Industries Three Thousand). KITT is now a black 2008 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500KR . Together with his former girlfriend Sarah Graiman, the daughter of the scientist Charles Graiman, who both developed the new KITT, Mike fights against injustice and crime for Knight Industries.
In the episode "Day Turns Into Knight" (original title), Dr. Graiman due to a plane crash, Agent Rivai is seriously injured and is no longer FBI agent of the team. During the episode "Knight to King's Pawn" (Engl. Title) builds, the NSA ( N ational S ECURITY A gency) that KITT project due to the death of Dr. Exit Graiman. Agent Torres allows the NSA to deactivate KITT and remove his chip in order to reactivate KARR, the prototype, with KITT's chip. The team finds KITT's artificial intelligence stored online and tries to restore it. Mike then breaks into Area 51 to use KITT's AI chip.
When Mike and KITT flee, KARR discovers that KITT has been reactivated. He overcomes KITT's programming with Torres as hostage / driver. KITT destroys KARR, but Agent Torres dies shortly afterwards.
production
NBC Universal boss Jeff Zucker hired Ben Silverman as NBC entertainment boss in the spring of 2007 and asked him for help getting NBC off the bottom of the ratings. One of Silverman's first steps was trying to reissue old series like Knight Rider and Gladiators . Silverman drew up a contract with Ford Motor Company to deliver the car that was the central character.
The series premiered on September 24, 2008 on NBC and ran the station's Wednesday night with Deal or No Deal and Lipstick Jungle .
Because the pilot was a huge hit, NBC ordered a full 22-episode season of the series on October 21, 2008. All episodes that aired on TV are also available on the PlayStation Video Store, Xbox Live Marketplace and iTunes Store . The episodes are available in HD format and SD format.
However, the ratings of the series itself fell quickly after a good start, which is why it was announced on November 10, 2008 that the series would be rearranged in order to get closer to its predecessor and put the focus on Michael and KITT. Yancey Arias, Bruce Davison and Sydney Tamiia Poitiers characters left the series in a two-part episode as their contracts only lasted up to and including the 13th episode and were not renewed.
On December 3, 2008, NBC reduced the season to seventeen episodes. The series finale aired on March 4, 2009. On May 19, 2009, NBC announced that it would not renew Knight Rider for a second season.
The reason given was not the bad ratings, but the high production costs of the series and the poor financial situation at NBC and the automobile manufacturer Ford, which sponsored the series. However, according to Gary Scott Thompson , director of production for the series, Knight Rider has not been deposed .

Knight Industries Three Thousand (KITT)
For the premiere of the series, many new features were introduced into KITT in addition to those seen in the pilot . As an homage to the Super Pursuit Mode , the new KITT can put itself in combat mode - a much more aggressive version than the one shown in the pilot film. First and foremost, it differs through a larger rear spoiler . KITT also transforms into a Ford F-150 FX4 pick-up for off-road use, a Ford F-150 Transporter , Ford Flex , Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor , and a 1969 Mach 1 Mustang for camouflage purposes . The series also showed features like the Turbo Boost, which enables KITT to jump. It can also maintain system performance underwater and provide occupants with oxygen. KITT also has a grappling hook, a laser weapon (in its scanner bar), double miniguns, defensive flares, attack rockets, a tranquilizer rifle, a nail gun (to destroy tires, for example), noise suppression and an EMP weapon.
The interior of the vehicle has been redesigned: the only screen in the center console has been replaced by a touchscreen as a heads-up display on the entire inner surface of the windshield. On the screen you could see KITT's "voice" display, reminiscent of the voice modulator of the original series. Now there is a pulsing ball in the center of the dashboard with a point in the center pointing towards whoever he is talking to. The other interior changes include a more conventional steering wheel , instead of the 3/4 steering wheel seen previously, and blue lighting of the instruments, which changes to red in battle mode. The 4x4 mode interior uses the same dashboard, but the passenger and driver seats of the F-150. KITT also has a backup computer that can be started if the primary is damaged.
KITT's technology includes a surface screen program that turns the bonnet into a touchscreen display, similar to the internal head-up display. In the glove compartment on the passenger side there are, among other things, analysis devices for any objects and chemicals, medical equipment and a printer. Furthermore, he has a 3D object generator in the rear interior, with which he can duplicate small objects such as keys, but also entire items of clothing, as well as an internal self-destruction program and backdoors in his program code.
