Doug Liman (born July 24, 1965 in New York City , New York ) is an American film director , film and television producer and cameraman .

Life

As the son of Arthur L. Liman, one of the prosecutors in the Iran-Contra affair , Liman was fascinated by conspiracy theories and political intrigue from an early age. A friend of his father's got him interested in film cameras and he began making short films himself. He graduated from Brown University in 1988 and then attended the USC School of Cinema-Television until 1992. He then became active as a director in Hollywood, his greatest successes being the surprise hit Swingers and the highly acclaimed agent thriller The Bourne Identity (2002) with Matt Damon and Franka Potente .

Liman then produced the successful television series OC, California in 2003 and 2004 . In 2005 he made the action film Mr. & Mrs. Smith . After he directed another action film with Jumper (2008), Fair Game followed in 2010 - Nothing is more dangerous than the truth , in which he took on the Valerie Plame affair . For this film Liman received an invitation to the competition at the 63rd Cannes Film Festival .

Liman works as an executive producer for film and television. His work includes more than 40 productions. As a director he is only occasionally involved in long-distance productions. He took over the camera work for three of his own films.

Liman now lives in Tribeca , Manhattan . Doug Liman is the cousin of the director John Hamburg .
