Sydney Tamiia Poitier (born November 15, 1973 in Los Angeles ) is an American actress . The daughter of the well-known actor Sidney Poitier achieved final fame through her role in Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof .

Life

Sydney Tamiia Poitier is the daughter of the well-known actor Sidney Poitier and the Canadian actress Joanna Shimkus and grew up as the youngest of six sisters, including four half-sisters, in Los Angeles. She studied acting at New York University Tisch School of the Arts , from which she also graduated.

Career

Poitier played her first role in the 1998 independent film Park Day . After a few minor appearances, she got one of the leading roles as Riley Kessler in the television series First Years . However, this series was canceled after nine episodes.

In the short-lived series Abby Poitier played the eponymous main character Abby Newman in 2003 , the series had ten episodes. This was followed by a recurring role as Rebecca Askew in the series The Heavenly Joan . In 2004 she was part of the main cast of the first season of the critically acclaimed Veronica Mars series , in which she played the journalism teacher Mallory Dent , for seven episodes . Her role has been canceled due to budget constraints. Poitier also appeared in films such as Snoop Dogg's Hood of Horror .

In Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof , part of the double feature Grindhouse , Poitier plays alongside Kurt Russell , Vanessa Ferlito and Jordan Ladd as radio host Jungle Julia . From 2008 she was in Knight Rider , the remake of the classic series , as FBI agent Carrie Rivai . In 2011, Poitier appeared in the Private Practice series .
