Dangerous witnesses (original title: Cappotto di legno ) is an Italian crime film that was directed by Gianni Manera . It was premiered in German on April 20, 1988 on video.

action

The Talascio family comes from Abruzzo and many years ago they set off for America full of hope, like so many Italian emigrants of various origins and political orientations. In their new home they experience ghettoization and unemployment; fighting them leads to a confrontation with the state power. Don Vincenzo ordered that, whether in New York, Marseilles, Palermo or Calabria, his three sons fight the Sicilians around Alfio Torlo, who had stolen a family treasure from the church. However, the youngest son falls in love with Angela, the daughter of the enemy. In addition, the Talascios family members also have to deal with a group of colored gangsters and the police.

criticism

“The result is epochal nonsense”, sums up genre connoisseur Karsten Thurau's request of the director and leading actor Manera to shoot an epic in the style of the godfather . The reasons he gives: "Figures appear and disappear again at will, the connections do not fit 90% together and the differences in the film material used (...) are clearly visible." The lexicon of international films also noted the unevenness of the work: " The nonsensical title hides the story of a tensionlessly staged vendetta; a lot of grim-looking staff and hasty scene changes ensure that both the interest of the audience and the reality of the mafia were filmed past. "

Remarks

The film, shot between 1976 and 1979, was not premiered until 1981 in Italy; the regular release was in May 1982. It is more or less a family film of the Maneras. Gianni in the lead role and with the direction, his brother (under the pseudonym Joseph Logan ) and his wife Maria Pia Liotta continued filming in New York, Palermo, Naples and Marseille (as indicated by the various cameramen) despite years of pauses and numerous difficulties always gone.
