action

In Devinity Falls, a sleepy-looking village in Nebraska, the demon of Er, who is always in the background , seizes one night Ezekial, one of the children of farmer Luke Enright. Under his influence, the other children then begin to kill anyone over the age of 18. First of all, the surrounding farmers and passing visitors become their victims.

Four college students, Alison, Greg, Tyrus and Kir, get lost on a trip to Devinity Falls, where the locals are unaware of the Enright children's obsession. For them, the farmer was always just a loner who lets his adopted children work for him. They in turn would worship someone whom they call He who is always in the background . When Alison hears this name, she is frightened and wants to get away from here immediately. Since their car is not ready to drive, they want to rush to the bus, but it has already left. They could not continue their journey until the next morning and so the four of them spend the night in an empty house. Here Alison reports about her brother Jacob, who left her family to go to the one who is always in the background, that's why she would be so shocked when she heard this name in the village. Shortly afterwards, the four discover the mutilated corpses of two friends who had driven ahead of them in the corn field in front of the house. Alison is convinced that her brother lives here on Enright's farm and goes there with her friends. While the children are under "guard", Alison is brought to Luke Enright, who pretends to be a prophet and savior of children who have been abused or rejected by their parents. When Alison actually meets Jacob, she learns from him that he would be very happy here and that he even had a wife who would soon have a child from him. With a heavy heart Alison says goodbye to her brother, who gives her a book when she leaves that would explain "her religion" to her. Alison begins reading it and realizes that her brother may be in danger since his 18th birthday is the next day.

Jacob should throw himself into the eternal flame (a burning corn silo) in order to become one with him, who is always in the background , and to let new life arise among them from his ashes. But Jacob refuses. In his place, Kir, who had also read Jacob's book and now finally thinks she knows why she is here, answers unexpectedly. She recently lost her boyfriend and is sure that he is waiting for her now. Kir climbs up the silo and jumps into fiery doom.

Alison has meanwhile notified the sheriff, who now hopes to have a handle to take action against Luke Enright. He orders that his corn silo, in which a smoldering fire has been smoldering for months, is to be extinguished, but the firefighters can do nothing about the flames that rise up against them and even kill them in the end. When the sheriff and Luke are killed by Ezekial's demonic influence, Alison tries to escape. To do this, she also has to kill some of the children who want to prevent her from escaping. In the corn field she finds her dying brother Jacob, who had been punished here by the children for his refusal. Jacob advises Alison to fight fire with fire before succumbing to his injuries. The older children continue to hunt Alison and her friends, with only Alison surviving the massacre. Remembering her brother's words, Alison throws canisters of fertilizer she found on the farm into the burning corn silo. The explosion that follows destroys the “eternal flame” and extinguishes it. Alison leaves the farm with the younger children and brings them to safety, away from all demonic powers and the influence of Ezekial, who fell into the corn silo before the explosion and burned there.

A few weeks later, Alison goes to see Lily (Jacob's wife). Her parents want Alison to take her brother's baby because Lily is still a child herself and too young to be a mother right now. Alison picks up the child and sings him a lullaby. This shows that the green-orange light of the silo fire shines in his eyes.

Reviews

The lexicon of international films wrote that "the fifth infusion of the thin horror story by Stephen King " used the plot "only as an alibi for a succession of butcher sequences".

The video portal nightmare-horrormovies.de said that it should be noted that the film was produced directly for the video market. Despite a budget of 1.65 million dollars, it is surprising "what the money was spent on. Because: The acoustic effects are poor and old. Loud noises are used to scare the viewer. The special effects of the 80s are better than in this film, although you could do a lot with the technology of the time. Unfortunately, you don't see a lot of 'shredded meat', only the result or blood in the landscape and on the children. The actors are not convincing - neither the victims nor the children. Dialogues are relatively bad, serve the cliché, are banal and hardly contribute to the storyline. "
