Children of the Corn 2 - The Final Sacrifice (Original title: Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice ) is an American horror film of 1993 and the first of seven sequels to children of wrath on the short story Children of the Corn ( Children of the Corn ) by Stephen King .

The followers of the mighty corn god continue their bloody craft and Gatlin's neighboring town becomes a new breeding ground for horror.

action

After the Children of Anger murder all the adults in their village, the residents of the neighboring town of Hemmingford discover their cruelly disfigured corpses. The public's attention is drawn to the tragedy that took place here, and journalist John Garrett comes to Gatlin with his 17-year-old son to learn more about the events. Danny has lived with his mother since the separation and does not have a particularly good relationship with his father. John hopes this trip will bring them closer again. On the way you meet two reporters from a television station who have already made their first recordings on site and are now looking for a special story. As they drive along a corn field, they get caught in a strange storm. One of the two gets out of the wagon and is pulled into the cornfield by an unknown force. The second is also killed by the storm shortly afterwards.

John Garrett interviews one of the orphaned Gatlin children who, like the others, were taken in by the neighboring town of Hemmingford and placed with families. The boy speaks of the maize field and that it would have taken the blood of his and the other parents' blood. John makes a note of this, but also wonders what that means. While looking around one of the abandoned Gatlin houses to find answers, he meets the Indian Frank Redbear. This speaks of an equilibrium that has gotten out of balance. The earth must be one with heaven, earth and water, but the "white man" never understood that and always wants to take everything. But if there is nothing left to take, the equilibrium is disturbed and everyone perishes. But John still doesn't know what that means.

When Micah, one of the Gatlin children, becomes possessed by a demon sent by He who walks behind the ranks, the children begin killing the people of Hemmingford. They meet regularly and let Micah guide and influence them. Micah also tries to get John's son Danny over to her side and since Danny also has problems with his father, he agrees without knowing what he's getting into.

In search of the cause of the mysterious process, John Garrett is accompanied by the Indian Frank Redbear. In a barn they find old corn on the cob from the previous year, which are obviously infected with ergot . This fungus can poison people in such a large amount just by breathing in the spores. According to Frank's knowledge, children in particular are most susceptible to this. When they want to tell the sheriff about it, they discover that he is already delusional and wants to kill them. However, they manage to escape, discovering the two dead TV reporters in the corn field and John does not want to believe that this is only supposed to come from poisonous mushroom spores. Frank is of the opinion that the god of vengeance would demand his victims here for what has been done to the earth by humans.

The sheriff is now mobilizing the local people for the maize harvest in a town hall meeting. Before they know it, the children have locked the door and set the building on fire. So, they think, to have wiped out all the adults of the place and so that they can now all become "one blood", Danny should sacrifice his girlfriend Lacey, with whom he had just befriended here in the place. While Danny hesitates, John and Frank interrupt the ritual. As a result, Frank and Micah are killed, whom the demon leaves in his agony and disappears in the corn field. Danny, Lacey, and John escape and leave the place.

Reviews

The critics at film-rezensions.de said: “As an actual horror film, the sequel can hardly be used in comparison to the at least atmospheric predecessor, the story is not exciting. In its own way, the trash version of the corn killer mania is quite fun. You wait here full of anticipation for the following death scene and wonder in what grotesque way the adults will have to believe in it next time. "

Cinema magazine wrote that the film was "as stupid as the first part". The editors scoffed by asking whether “the trash in the end is the revenge of those who have suffered from rustling popcorn bags in the cinema for years”.
