Metropolis 2000 (original title: I nuovi barbari ) is an Italian end-time film by Enzo G. Castellari from 1982, which is very much influenced by Mad Max .

action

After a nuclear disaster, the earth will be desolate and empty in 2019. The gang "Templers" under their merciless ruler One and his advisor Shadow plunder the remaining resources and kill the remaining survivors. But Scorpion opposes them. He frees Alma from her clutches and escapes his captors with the help of the nadir armed with a high-tech bow. He takes the woman to the nearby peaceful desert village under the direction of Father Moses, a Christian community that hides from the Templars.

Scorpion continues on his way, but falls into the clutches of the Templars. Just as One tries to torture and rape him, his spies find the village and the Templers hurry to raid the village. They leave Scorpion behind, who is to be killed afterwards. But Nadir frees him. Together with a young mechanic, Nadir and Scorpion face the Templars. In a decisive battle, they free the villagers and kill the Templers.

The film was made in Italy in 1982 and is obviously based on the film Mad Max , as futuristic cars are also used here.

In Germany the film was released on June 10, 1983 in the cinema and later on VHS . On April 10, 1984, the film was indexed by the federal inspection agency for writings harmful to minors. He was released on March 31st. The film was cut in two scenes until the new releases from around 2007. A beheading scene and dialogue were missing. As part of the SchleFaZ television series by Oliver Kalkofe and Peter Rütten , the film was broadcast on Tele 5 in this cut version on September 2, 2016 .

Reviews

The film is considered a classic of the Italian trash film . Accordingly, he was heavily criticized by the film critics. The film's weaknesses are particularly evident in the script, the low budgeted special effects and the acting. It is considered a cult film in horror film circles.
