Anna Kanakis

Anna Maria Kanakis (born February 1, 1962 in Messina , Province of Messina ) is an Italian film actress and politician .

Life

Anna Kanakis was born to an Italian mother and a Greek father. In 1977, at the age of 15, she was not only elected Miss Vulkan - a title created in allusion to Mount Etna - but also crowned Miss Italy . However, the title was subsequently revoked due to her minority. In 1981 she represented Italy in the Miss Universum election . A year later she met the musician Claudio Simonetti , who was ten years her senior , and married him. She moved with him to Rome , where she has lived since then; the marriage was divorced in 1984. She has been married to the banker Marco Merati Foscarini since 2004, who was then President of the Swiss bank BSI SA . Her husband is a direct descendant of Marco Foscarini , one of the last Doges of Venice .

Anna Kanakis, who made her debut as an actress in the film Bello di mamma in 1980 , was hardly known beyond the Italian borders. In 1991 she appeared in front of the camera in the miniseries Die Junge Katharina , which was followed in 2006 by The End of the Gods , in which she played Claudia Procula . So far, she has appeared in around 30 feature films and mini-series.

Kanakis was also politically active in Italy. From 1979 to 1980 she was the women's representative on the staff of President Francesco Cossiga .
