At the end of November 1976, the first album called David Soul rose to the English charts and reached number 2 in February 1977. The single Don't Give Up on Us , which was released in December 1976, climbed to the top of the UK charts and was there in mid-January 1977 for four weeks and became the UK's best-selling single of the year. The song also became the number one hit on the American Billboard Hot 100 .
The follow-up single Going in with My Eyes Open hit the UK charts at the end of March, climbed to 2nd place in the second week and stayed there for a total of three weeks. In the United States, Soul's success waned and the song did not get past 54th place. The single Silver Lady was only able to climb to number 52 in the US charts, but became David Souls' second number one hit in England. The title hit the UK charts at the end of August and topped the list for three weeks in October. The accompanying album, Playing to an Audience of One , reached # 8 in the UK in September 1977.
With Let's Have a Quiet Night In from the album Moods , released in December 1977 , Soul had another top 10 hit. The song rose to number 8 in England in January 1978. It Sure Brings Out the Love in Your Eyes was the singer's last chart success in the UK in May of that year.
