Conchata Galen Ferrell (born March 28, 1943 in Charleston , West Virginia - † October 12, 2020 in Sherman Oaks , Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress . She was best known for her role as housekeeper Berta in the television series Two and a Half Men .

Life

Conchata Galen Ferrell was born in Charleston in 1943 to Luther Martin Ferrell and Mescal Loraine (George) Ferrell. She graduated from West Virginia University and graduated in Social and Education from Marshall University . From the early 1970s, Ferrell appeared in the theater. Lanford Wilson saw Ferrell as Agnes in a production of his one-act play Ludlow Fair and was so enthusiastic about her performance that he wrote for her the role of April in The Hot l Baltimore . Ferrell played this role from 1973 to 1976 in 1,166 appearances at New York's Circle in the Square Theater. For her role in the Off-Broadway -Theaterstück The Sea Horse was a 1974 Drama Desk Award , a Theater World Award and an Obie Award excellent.

In 1975, Ferrell took on the role of April again in the television adaptation of Hot l Baltimore . From then on she appeared in numerous film and television productions. In the western land of my heart she played one of the leading roles alongside Rip Torn and won the Western Heritage Award in 1981 . In the comedy Pizza Pizza - A Piece of Heaven (1988) she played the role of the pizza parlor owner Leona , where Daisy Arujo ( Julia Roberts ), Kat Arujo ( Annabeth Gish ) and Jojo ( Lili Taylor ) work. In 1990 she appeared in Tim Burton's fantasy film Edward Scissorhands at the side of Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder .

She was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1992 for her role as Susan Bloom , which she played in the television series LA Law from 1991 to 1992 . In 1996 she appeared in the television series Townies . In Erin Brockovich (2000) she took on the role of Brenda . From 2003 to 2015 she was the housekeeper Berta at the side of Charlie Sheen and Jon Cryer , later also Ashton Kutcher in the television series Two and a Half Men . For this role she received further nominations for an Emmy Award in 2005 and 2007.

Ferrell was dating sound engineer Arnie Anderson since 1979 and married in 1986. The relationship resulted in a daughter (* 1982), Anderson brought two more daughters into the marriage.

In December 2019, Ferrell was hospitalized for an infection. Another hospital stay followed in May 2020, during which Ferrell suffered a heart attack. Since then she has been in a care facility to recover. She died on October 12, 2020 at the age of 77 as a result of cardiac arrest .

The Berlin actress Regina Lemnitz was often active as her voice actress .
