Lorraine Toussaint (born April 4, 1960 in Trinidad ) is an American actress .

Life

Toussaint's family immigrated to the United States when she was ten years old. She studied dramaturgy at the Juilliard School . The actress made her debut in the television drama The Face of Rage from 1983. In the television drama In the Net of Violence (1986), she played one of the bigger roles alongside Richard Crenna . In the adventure comedy The Dream Dancers (1989) she took on a larger role alongside Burt Reynolds and Casey Siemaszko .

In the thriller Codename: Nina (1993), Toussaint starred alongside Bridget Fonda and Gabriel Byrne . From 1998 to 2002 she played one of the two leading roles in the television series Any Day Now . For this role she was nominated for the Image Award in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 . In the television drama Love never dies (2005), which has won numerous awards and nominations , she played a larger role alongside Halle Berry .
