action

The 16-year-old orphan Adora lives on the planet Etheria, which is ruled by the tyrant Hordak. Adora, who was raised by Hordak, wants to protect her homeland from the so-called princess rebellion and therefore joins the army, the Wild Horde. There she soon rises to force captain, which her best friend Catra displeases, who always seems to be in Adora's shadow. One day, when Adora gets lost in a forest, she finds a sword and hears a voice calling for her. Adora leaves the forest again, but the mysterious experience preoccupies her so much that she wants to look for the sword. She is captured by Princess Glimmer and Bow, two members of the rebellion. These show her the atrocities that the Wild Horde regularly perpetrates. Adora is utterly appalled by this new knowledge and decides to join the rebellion. With the help of the sword she gains superpowers and from now on calls herself She-Ra . While she first has to find her way in the new environment, Catra is deeply disappointed by Adora's defection, but at the same time she sees the opportunity to prove that she is on a par with her friend. Adora tries several times to persuade Catra to also come to the rebellion organization, but they don't want to know about it and now regards her former best friend as an enemy.

characters

main characters

  • Adora / She-Ra is the protagonist of the series. She grew up in the ruler's palace of Etheria, where she was brought up strictly, but always viewed her surroundings as understanding. She is extremely ambitious, reliable and intelligent, which is why she quickly developed into a very good soldier in the army and was promoted to force captain. Since she never had contact with the outside world during her childhood, she long had a certain naivety and did not see Hordak's tyranny , therefore thought that his horde was doing good for the planet. One day while looking for lost companions in the Whispering Forest, she finds a sword and hears the voice of a woman named Light Hope . After this incident, she becomes curious and goes looking for the sword again. In the forest, she is captured by Glimmer and Bow, who are part of the rebellion. They make them aware of the suffering of the population for which the Horde is responsible. Adora is so shocked by this that she turns her back on the army and joins the rebellion. There she first has to gain the trust of the other rebels, and she also has difficulties adapting to her new life. At first she does not sleep well in her bed, as she is used to sleeping in a barrack with others . In addition, she loses her best friend Catra, who does not want to join the rebellion but remains in the army to step out of Adora's shadow. Due to the magic sword she has a very great power, also She-Ra has a limited ability to heal. In season five, she gets together with her former best friend Catra and can defeat Horde Prime before he achieves world domination.
  • Mica is the princess of Bright Moon, the largest kingdom in Etheria. She inherited her magical powers from Angella, her mother and queen. She is always optimistic and very loyal to her friends. She wants to go her own way later in life and is very persistent even when there are difficulties. She can teleport herself and other people ; In addition, she is able to use the combat staff that belonged to her father Micah to generate bursts of energy that briefly blind her opponents. After a while she has to lie down under the so-called moonstone in order to “recharge” herself, and she also loses consciousness if she uses her strength too hard. Her magic is also more powerful when she is angry or afraid. In the fourth season, Glimmer becomes Queen of Bright Moon ... because Angella is stuck between two dimensions, but Glimmer's inexperience and emotional decisions about how to proceed against the Horde are a hindrance to their government work. For these reasons, at the end of season four, she is also captured by Horde Prime and Catra. In the fifth season, she is saved from the rebellion and begins a committed relationship with Bow.
  • Catra grew up with Adora. Their joint trainer Shadow Weaver humiliated Catra and always preferred Adora. Although Catra defended her as best she could, Catra became more and more jealous of her best friend. In contrast to Adora, Catra knew of the cruelty of the Horde, but she was indifferent to them, because they simply wanted to prove their superiority over Adora. Unlike her friend, Catra is unpunctual, stubborn and does not respect authorities. Despite her jealousy, Catra always considered Adora a sort of surrogate sister. When she converts to rebellion and becomes She-Ra , she is a traitor in Catra's eyes. However, Catra quickly realizes that she can now prove her skills through Adora's absence. In one episode she captures Glimmer and Bow with the help of the princess Scorpia, and although She-Ra can free them again, she persuades Catra Entrapta, a highly intelligent inventor, to join the horde. Entrapata's skills create new, high-quality weapons with which Catra wants to subdue the entire planet. Although this fails, Hordak is so impressed by Catra that he appoints her vice-leader of the Horde. Catra's appearance and instincts are similar to those of a cat , including jumping and climbing. It also has sharp claws with which it can fight opponents and overcome steep obstacles. For She-Ra, Catra feels a kind of love-hate relationship ; although she resents She-Ra for leaving her for the rebellion, she still feels very attached to her. In season five, she gets together with her former best friend and joins the rebellion.
  • Bow is a member of the Rebellion and an expert on technology . He comes from the Whisper Forest, where he grew up with his fathers George and Lance and twelve other siblings. He is (as his name suggests) a very talented archer and makes special arrows with which he can shoot sound and shock waves , nets , flares and a sticky substance. His friends are very important to him, he always stands up for them and is not afraid to save them from emergencies. He also hates injustice, stands up for his values and has a desire to always do the right thing. That's why he criticizes Glimmer's sometimes brutal proposals when she becomes queen. In addition to his arrows, Bow has a tracking device that can be used to find the smallest traces of magic. Due to their mutual interest in technology, Bow has a particularly good relationship with Princess Entrapta, which he takes up again with open arms during the rebellion, even after her brief betrayal. Although he once goes to a ball with Perfuma and assures Glimmer that they are best friends, the two become a couple in season five.
  • Angella is the Queen of Bright Moon and mother of Glimmer. She is the leader of the rebellion and is psychologically burdened by the failure of her movement and the death of her husband Micah. Because of these traumatic experiences, she is very protective of her daughter, which, however, tends to strain their relationship rather than improve it. Angella is immortal and, unlike mica, has wings that are large enough to fly with. It can shoot rays of light and form light shields that serve to protect against enemies. It also supplies the moonstone with energy when there are problems in Etheria. In the third season she saves Adora from being between the dimensions, but is therefore trapped there herself and is not freed in the last season, which is why her future fate remains unknown.
  • Hordak is the leader of the Horde in Etheria and strives for world domination. In contrast to Shadow Weaver, he is not impulsive, but rather pragmatic , so he does not want to bring Adora back, but promotes Catra to Force Captain. Hordak wears armor with laser bullets, which, like She-Ra, gives him great strength and suppresses his poor physical condition. He is also clever and technically adept. He can create an energy field in which the amount of oxygen slowly decreases, indicating that he is an alien, which will be confirmed later. He is also willing to forgive his subordinates for mistakes and disregard of orders, as long as they are honest with him. When he found out about Catras and Entrapta's joint research, he assured them of his support and provided them with the necessary materials. He values Entrapta very much for helping him with technical problems and appoints her as his assistant, seeming to have more than friendly feelings for her. For this reason, he is heartbroken over her disappearance. In the third season, it turns out that he is actually a clone of the Horde Prime, the true leader of the Horde. In season four, he is punished for his disobedience by the Prime Horde, with his memory being erased. In the fifth season, Hordak remembers Entrapta and becomes a member of the rebellion.
  • Horde Prime is the actual leader of the Horde and very concerned about his reputation. He has already conquered a number of galaxies, his goal is to subjugate the entire universe, while he regards all who do not belong to the Horde as inferior. Like Hordak, he is also terrifying, but much more cruel, uncontrollable, power-hungry, cold-hearted and tyrannical. He doesn't want to fight himself, which is why he sends his clones onto the battlefield. Similar to Hordak, Horde Prime has a skeletal appearance, gray-blue skin, neon-green eyes and fangs , metal fingernails that serve as a kind of screen, and long, pointed ears, but in contrast to Hordak, he is significantly stronger and physically healthy. He has metal dreadlocks that can be grasped and connect him to his armor. He can read the thoughts of his counterparts by touching their faces, the dreadlocks are also used for mind control. In the fourth season he captures Glimmer, Catra and Hordak, the latter he punishes for his plan to become ruler of Etheria himself by "reprogramming", ie erasing his memory. Catra is able to stop him from killing Glimmer and destroying Etheria when she reveals to him that the planet itself is a powerful weapon. In the fifth season, while he wants to conquer the world, he is defeated and destroyed by Adora.
  • Shadow Weaver was the vice-leader of the Horde and a powerful sorceress. She found Adora as a baby and took her in, and later Catra joined them. When the two were still children, Shadow Weaver always preferred Adora, who trained her in combat and treated her lovingly, but Catra was often humiliated and openly despised by her. When Adora becomes She-Ra, she wants to bring her protégé back against Hordak's orders. First, Catra is supposed to track down and capture Adora. When this does not succeed, she tries to manipulate Adora's thoughts, this is prevented by mica. Catra eventually destroys Shadow Weaver's mask so that she can no longer fall back on her magical powers, and takes her place in the Horde. In the second season, Shadow Weaver is imprisoned by Hordak, but is able to escape with Catra's help. It also turns out that she used to be a member of the Princesses Alliance as the Light Spinner and trained Glimmer's father, Micah, before black magic made her evil and a member of the Horde. In the third season, she is captured in Bright Moon and helps Adora fight the Horde. In the fourth season she teaches Glimmer her magic skills. She dies in season five sacrificing herself so that Adora and Catra have a chance to battle Horde Prime. In addition to mind control, Shadow Weaver possessed the ability to construct shadows and monsters that only listened to their commands. In addition, as a light spinner, she was able to fight her opponents with spells and illusions , which she passed on to Micah. She devoted herself to gardening with great talent in Etheria and had a penchant for daisies .
  • Scorpia was another member of the Horde. She is actually a princess, but her ancestors were already part of the army, which is why she is ostracized by the others. Like She-Ra and Hordak, Scorpia is also very strong, but unlike the two of them, she cannot always handle her strength well. She is ambitious, loyal and always wants to make a good impression in front of her superiors. Its anatomy is similar to that of a scorpion , with its poison in its tail it can temporarily paralyze enemies, and it is also very resistant to Glimmer's energy surges and other attacks. She can use her scissors hands as cutting and striking tools, but she occasionally has problems grasping or using objects with them. Although she belongs to the Horde, unlike other members, she is not malicious, but extremely nice and a bit pissed off. In addition, she is caring towards Catra, although she does not treat her well, Scorpia also has romantic feelings against her. In the fourth season she realizes that Catra will never reciprocate these feelings, which is why she leaves the Horde and becomes a member of the rebellion, under which she feels comfortable and immediately makes friends with the other princesses. After connecting to her runestone with Glimmer's help, Scorpia gains the ability to generate and control red lightning.
  • Entrapta is the princess of Dryl and is a member of the rebellion. She is highly intelligent, inquisitive and always cheerful. Entrapta is considered a genius and expert in inventing and hacking . She mainly deals with robots and often sees herself as an outsider. When she accompanies She-Ra on a mission, she is believed dead and left behind. Catra can therefore easily convince them to join the Horde. Entrapta designed several machines for them, including a tank with an integrated bomb that could drive and fire independently, and a robot army. She can also grab objects with her hair. Entrapta is not interested in the goals of the rebellion or the Horde, science is most important to her, regardless of the purposes for which it is used, which is why she often acts fearlessly for them. In the second season she becomes the official assistant of Hordak. In the third season she builds a portal which, as it turns out later, is extremely dangerous to use. She tries to prevent Catra from activating it, but fails and is finally brought to the remote Beast Island by her. In the fourth season she is freed by Adora and again a member of the rebellion. It is only in the fifth season that she shows remorse for her work in the Horde and admits that she longs for real contact with the other princesses.
  • Perfuma is the princess of Plumeria and also a member of the rebellion. She is a very kind pacifist who loves peace and her meditation, and who firmly believes that the universe rewards good and punishes evil. Even so, she fights the Horde when necessary, which she also takes pleasure in as the series progresses. Perfuma can make plants and flowers grow in very large numbers very quickly, with whom they fought their opponents, including climbing plants , they can out of them also golems and statues erected, also it produces in the fight with opponents pollen that as the armed forces or Distraction serves. Although she shows considerable skill and is referred to by Adora as a "demon on the battlefield", she often suffers from self-doubt. Her other weaknesses are missing out on her morning meditation, stress, and cacti that she is poor rather than quite able to control.
  • Mermista is the princess of Salineas and another member of the rebellion. Outwardly, she is blunt and tough, but she has a soft core and difficulties to express her true feelings and to deal with them. She is a brave fighter who can control water, for example using it against the Horde waves and floods. She is also able to transform into a mermaid , which allows her to breathe underwater and dive for a very long time. She is also able to communicate with animals associated with the sea, such as seagulls. As a weapon, she wears the royal trident . She appears to be Sea Hawke's ex-girlfriend as they used to have frequent dates that failed due to his chaotic personality. Although she claims otherwise, she still feels friendly towards him.
  • At eleven, Frosta is the youngest princess in the Alliance. She is the princess of the Snow Kingdom, one of the most powerful in Etheria. She can control ice by, for example, constructing weapons from it and using ice splinters as projectiles, her armor and gloves are also made of the material, but she suffers from hypothermia if she wears them too long. Frosta is opinionated, a little exhausting and thinks more logically than emotionally. In combat, she is overzealous and inconsiderate, as she attacks first and only then thinks about the possible consequences. She wants to show her strength and abilities to the other princesses, which is why she often puts herself and the others in danger. Later she becomes more humorous, childish and develops a liking for word games . She gets along well with Scorpia while she is still in the Horde, as both of them know the feeling of not being adjusted.

Minor characters

  • Sea Hawk is a seafarer and joins the rebellion against the Horde. He is extremely self-confident, he claims, among other things, that sirens are weak in his shanties and, when he is defeated by Adora in arm wrestling, that he once beat a tyrosaur in this sport after two weeks. His ships, the Dragon's Daughter and the Dragon's Daughter 2 , both went down when he accidentally set them on fire. He is in love with Princess Mermista, which is based on reciprocity, but denies this. He brings Adora, Glimmer and Bow to Salineas when they want to win Mermista for the alliance. There they are attacked by Catra and Scorpia, Sea Hawk defeats the Horde with the help of Glimmer by ramming the enemy 's ship with the Dragon's Daughter 3 . Out of gratitude, Mermista gives him a new ship, but it is destroyed in the Battle of Bright Moon. Sea Hawk also sets it on fire, destroying enemy tanks. Sea Hawk is also quite skilled at sword fighting, preferring his gold cutlass or saber .
  • Swift Wind is initially a horse that lives in the village of Thaymor near the forest. When Catra and the Horde ravage the village in search of Adora, it loses its owner. Adora, Glimmer and Bow pick him up and call him Horsey. While She-Ra is practicing with her sword, she accidentally turns Horsey into an Alicorn, who resembles a unicorn . The former horse, which can now fly and speak, then travels all over Etheria to perfect his language skills. When he realizes that other horses are being stabled, he frees some of them and calls himself Swift Wind, alluding to what he calls the "Winds of Revolution". He is very loyal to Adora and does not hesitate to save her in dangerous situations. He shows great courage in combat, and after learning to speak, he does not shy away from sharing his opinion directly with others. In addition to his ability to fly and speak, Swift Wind can also track down hidden founder technology and, thanks to a magical connection, knows whether Adora is in danger.
  • Castaspella is the ruler of Mystacor, a secret kingdom where almost all of the sorceresses of Etheria live. She has magical abilities like Shadow Weaver, but is not quite as powerful because her spells do not work against her opponent, nor can she protect herself from Shadow Weaver's spells. Castaspella is Micah's sister and therefore Glimmer's aunt. She is overprotective of her niece and constantly offers her something to eat. She also keeps asking Glimmer if Angella is taking good care of her, as her relationship with her sister-in-law is a bit strained. Castaspella is a benevolent ruler and is constantly knitting socks and sweaters for others.
  • Netossa and Spinnerella are two princesses and a married couple, but they do not belong to any particular kingdom in Etheria. Netossa is complacent and coarse, but affectionate and cautious towards her wife. She has the ability to form and control energy balls that, when thrown, serve as safety nets and protective shields. Spinnerella is friendly and calm, in battle she competes with Netossa to see who can defeat more enemies. She can control the wind by fighting opponents with storms and tornadoes , the latter she also uses as a means of transport.
  • Kyle was part of the Horde, but wasn't particularly comfortable there. This was because, while loyal and brave, he was also smaller, weaker and clumsier than his comrades and was quickly defeated by others both in the simulator and in real combat. Because of this, in the Horde he was both a target for ridicule and a scapegoat when a mission failed. At first his only comrade with whom he got along well was the lizard- like Rogelio, the two later also become a couple. When Kyle has to take care of the prisoner Bow, he befriends him and admits that he would like to have more friends who take him seriously and understand him. He got along quite well with Adora until she became a member of the rebellion. In the fourth season he voluntarily sacrifices himself and repairs a vehicle, believing that his comrades don't care about him anyway. He loses consciousness from inhaling acid , but is saved by Rogelio and his comrade Lonnie. He also seems otherwise technically talented, as he once repaired a broken Horde tank. In the same season he leaves the Horde with Rogelio and Lonnie, in the fifth season the three live together and take care of Hordak's former, bat- like pet Imp.
  • Lonnie was also a member of the Horde and was friends with Adora until Adora turned his back on the army. She was a good soldier, which is why she didn't like it when Catra sneakily attacked Adora in the combat simulator, which is why she always attacked Catra there. She didn't like Catra very much either, because she was unmotivated and a bad fighter in her eyes. That's why she didn't like it when Catra was promoted to Force Captain, but she was obedient and followed Catra's orders without contradiction. Despite her cool demeanor, her comrades and friends are very important to her, which is why she resents Adora for leaving the Horde. She also seems to feel something for Scorpia, as she blushes when she praises her in an episode, and lets it pass when she sneaks into the horror zone in one episode. In combat, she always stood next to Kyle, whom she liked to tease when he was first incapacitated, but Lonnie usually went down shortly afterwards herself. She is very good at hand-to-hand combat and strong, and she also seems to have at least some technology knowledge, as she controls a spy robot in one episode. In season four, she leaves the Horde with Kyle and Rogelio due to Catra's increasing obsession with defeating Adora.
  • Light Hope was a hologram that lived in the crystal castle and trained the respective She-Ra. She taught the warriors how to use her powers and the sword for centuries, but one of them, Mara, allegedly did not cope with her new calling and, according to Light Hope, almost destroyed the entire kingdom. A thousand years after this incident, Light Hope recognized the new She-Ra in the infant Adora, but she could not prevent her from being raised by the Horde. After a fight with Catra, Glimmer is wounded and Adora finds the crystal castle in her search for help. There she met Light Hope for the first time, who persuaded her to do a long training session in the castle. When Catra tries to subjugate Etheria, Light Hope tries unsuccessfully to convince Adora to end the training. In the fourth season, Light Hope wants to activate a hidden super weapon, as the founding fathers planned and reprogrammed especially for it. Adora can prevent this, whereupon Light Hope is deactivated and then deleted.
  • Madame Razz is a more than 1000 year old sorceress who lives in the Whisper Forest, where she is constantly surrounded by butterflies and, despite her old age, is still very agile. She seems senile, always confused and behaves very strangely, but she is wise and has great knowledge of the history of Etheria. When Adora hides from Hordak's henchmen in the forest, she meets Madame Razz. She thinks this is Mara, a former She-Ra. While they are picking berries together, Madame Razz gives Adora vague but helpful information about the tasks of the She-Ra. Then Adora uses her help to fight Grizzlor and other soldiers of the Horde, including Razz's homemade, exploding berries. In the fourth season it turns out that Razz Mara, Adora's predecessor, often helped with problems, as it does in the present for the current She-Ra. Since she always oscillates between the past and the future, she often confuses her surroundings with one another. Madame Razz's broom is Broom, whom she can get to her like other objects with telekinesis and who already appears in the original series, and a photo of Loo-Kee can be seen in her house, also a minor character from the original series.
  • King Micah is Angella's husband, Glimmer's father, and Castaspella's brother. He became the pupil of Light Spinner in his youth, who later became Shadow Weaver. He quickly developed into a powerful and talented wizard, especially in handling electricity, fire and energy spells and illusions. Micah is brave and ambitious, but also a bit stubborn. He broke away from Shadow Weaver when she asked him to use black magic on enemies. Later he met Angella, with whom he was happily married and thus became king of Etheria. Shortly afterwards they had their daughter Glimmer, whom he lovingly looked after. He also got on well with Castaspella, which is why all three are still mourning him in the present, Shadow Weaver also seems to be sad about his loss, even if she doesn't want to admit it. He died during a battle, but the third season implies that he may still be alive. In the fourth season it turns out that he is not dead at all, but was simply exiled by the Horde to the island of Beast Island, from which Adora is freed
  • Mara was Adora's direct predecessor as She-Ra. She was brave and loyal, but also fearful and, according to Light Hope, not really up to the task. Light Hope claims that she did not have the emotional strength to balance and protect Etheria. That's why she promoted the planet to the Despondos dimension so that the Horde would not discover it. In doing so she died and ended the She-Ra cycle for a long time. She is often mentioned in the series by Madame Razz, who was friends with her. In the third season she appears to Adora as a hologram and says that she wanted to protect Etheria from the founders who wanted to get her sword in order to activate a portal and reach Horde Prime. In season four, Adora finds a secret message from Mara warning her of the heart of Etheria, a hidden, powerful weapon. It turns out that she took the planet to the other dimension so that its destructive power could not be used by the Horde, then she took her ship to the purple desert, where it was nowhere to be found and on which she died.
  • Double Trouble is a non-binary mercenary and meets Catra for the first time in the Crimson Desert. Double Trouble promises to get good pay from the Horde and offers Catra to work for them. She is initially skeptical when she sees that Double Trouble can transform into other people and is good at hand-to-hand combat, she agrees. Double Trouble poses as a young girl named Flutterina, wins Adora's trust and becomes a member of the rebellion. Double Trouble will from now on regularly inform the Horde of the activities of the Princesses Alliance. In the course of the action, Double Trouble is convicted and locked up. Later, Double Trouble helps the rebellion, as Double Trouble believes that it will win the war against the Horde and not the other way around. Double Trouble has a reptilian appearance (green skin, crooked eyes, claws, jagged teeth, long tail, very small nose, pointy ears) and is very confident, arrogant, and praises itself regularly. Double Trouble is extremely polite, but often also condescending towards other, even powerful Horde members such as Catra or Hordak. In addition to the ability to change shape, Double Trouble is also good at acting, is very proud of this talent and has a correspondingly theatrical way of speaking and can also free himself from almost any trap. Double Trouble loves to create chaos and is disappointed if it doesn't work out. Double Trouble is also adept at analyzing others psychologically and almost sadistically breaking them. At the end of the fourth season, Double Trouble leaves the rebellion and goes his own way.
  • Huntara is a former member of the Horde. She left this when Hordak became more and more brutal and has lived in the purple desert ever since. There she helps Adora and her friends when they are attacked by outlaws, but she takes Adora's sword. However, she is quickly overtaken by Adora, Glimmer and Bow. When she learns of Adora's activity as She-Ra, she joins the group in the fight against the Horde. Huntara is extremely strong, tall, battle-tested and, thanks to her training in the Horde, insidious and strategically talented, which is why she is feared by other criminals and practically dominates the desert. She carries a staff that can be used as a weapon and compass . When she found the ship of Adora's predecessor Mara, she studied all information about She-Ra there, which is why she respects and adores her. In the fourth season she decides to return to the desert because she wants to defend her old home from uninvited intruders.
  • George and Lance are Bow's fathers . George was a soldier in the Princesses Alliance in his youth, when he wanted to go back to his home village, he found it destroyed by the Horde. That's why he wants to protect Bow and didn't want him to fight the Horde too. He is strict and asked that his son take over the library he runs with his husband and continue their historical studies. Bow was very unhappy about this and lied to his parents by telling them he was studying with Adora and Glimmer at the fictional Academy of Historic Enterprises . Lance is energetic, always optimistic, a little eccentric, friendly and quite similar to his son, as he is sentimental and empathetic like him. He is easily distracted and can panic quickly if something unexpected happens. When Bow confesses the truth to the two, they accept his decision because they see how committed he is in the rebellion.
  • Octavia belongs to the species of sea elves, which is why she has green skin and four tentacles. She is an officer of the Horde, irritable, choleric and quickly feels offended or provoked, which is why she is not exactly popular with the recruits. When Catra was young, she injured her eye with her claws and called her stupid, Adora repeated her statement, which is why Octavia pursued her furiously and has been wearing a bandage over her right eye ever since. Later, as a pilot, she controls a ship with the prisoners Swift Wind, Bow and Sea Hawk, which is attacked by Adora, Glimmer and Mermista.
  • Grizzlor mostly occurs in the background. He is a member of the Horde, where he is particularly noticeable for his strength, his animal appearance and ferocity due to his fur . Although he is fearless and inconsiderate towards his opponents, he lacks a lot of intelligence.
  • Norwyn was once ruler of Mystacor, when he died, Castaspella succeeded him. He was a powerful wizard who could shoot energy beams and float. Light Spinner learned her powers from him, who made her a powerful sorceress and who often accused her of being greedy for power. When Light Spinner was injured and disfigured in the face by a ray of magic through Micah's complicity, she now attacked all other wizards in Mystacor as Shadow Weaver. Norywn fought them with his rays, but his powers were not strong enough to defeat them, as Shadow Weaver became even more powerful by a forbidden spell and killed him.
  • Tung Lashor is a gang leader in the Crimson Desert. It resembles a crocodile and, like Huntara, is very large and strong, although it is inferior to it. He is arrogant, narcissistic, selfish and robs people who arrive in the desert, moreover he always claims desert sections for himself and claims to be the strongest. When Catra and Scorpia run into him, they make fun of him, which annoys him and causes them to attack the two. Although he initially has the upper hand in the fight with Catra, she finally manages to throw him into quicksand . She offers to pull him out, which is why he throws her his whip , but she leaves him behind and takes over the leadership of his gang. It remains open until the end of the series whether he will survive or die.

production

Most of the characters from the original series have been adopted, but some of their background stories and character traits have been changed. For example, He-Man , the twin brother of the title character, does not appear in the first season in order to let She-Ra find her own destiny, and the main character Catra in the reboot is more of an antihero than a pure antagonist . According to Stevenson, the reboot, in contrast to the old series, focuses primarily on the relationships between the individual princesses.

About 45 employees in the DreamWorks studios in Glendale were involved in the production of the series. A special feature here was that the reboot's writing staff consisted only of women, and with Keston John , who set the antagonist Hordak to music, only one speaker was represented among the regular characters. The style of drawing was based on the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Jean Giraud .

Even before it aired, Stevenson and other contributors announced that the series would feature several LGBT characters. 1 1 The sword - part 1 The Sword Part 1 Adam Henry Noelle Stevenson
Adora, who leads an isolated life in the Dread Zone, is a cadet in the Horde, an army that rules most of the planet Etheria. She is promoted to force captain. Her best friend Catra is also in the Horde, but is always in Adora's shadow. The Horde is ordered to storm the actually very peaceful village of Thaymor the next day. Catra is not allowed to go along with what is depressing her. To cheer her up, Adora flies with her secretly into the Whisper Forest. After a crash landing, Adora finds a sword, when she touches it, she gets strange visions. The next night, she does not let go of this experience in the dream, which is why she asks Catra to replace her during the storm that morning. She goes back into the woods to look for the sword and meets Bow and Glimmer, who belong to the rebellion. This is evil in Adora's eyes because she is against the horde, which is why she fights against the two. During the fight, a huge spider stands in their way. Adora manages to grab the sword, which turns her into a kind of warrior.
2 2 The sword - part 2 The Sword Part 2 Jen Bennett Noelle Stevenson
Adora succeeds in calming the spider in its transformed form, but it immediately reacts aggressively again when Adora returns to normal and Glimmer takes the sword from her. They flee to a ruin, where Adora finds that she can read the dead language of the founders of Etheria. She finds a statue that looks very much like her transformed form. According to the plaque, this is called She-Ra. Adora slowly makes friends with Glimmer and Bow, who explain to her the destruction the Horde regularly wields. Adora does not want to believe this, but when she observes from a distance how her comrades attack Thaymor, which is not a fortress at all, as was claimed, she realizes the true face of the Horde. When she goes to the village with Adora with Glimmer and Bow, she meets Catra, who has been ordered by her superior Shadow Weaver to bring Adora back. When Catra confesses to Adora that she knew the true intentions of the Horde from the start, Adora refuses to go with her, so Catra tries to overpower her with an electric baton . Glimmer and Bow rush to her aid, Adora finally manages to drive away the horde as She-Ra. She joins the rebellion and finds an abandoned horse in the destroyed village. She calls this Horsey and sets off with him and Glimmer and Bow to Bright Moon, the largest kingdom in Etheria, which is ruled by Glimmer's mother Angella.

Razz goes with her to pick berries and tells Adora that her horse is now called Swift Wind. The two ride together on Swift Wind to a Horde base led by Grizzlor. The two manage to destroy the base. This increases Adora's self-confidence considerably, which is why she finally manages to step in front of Angella in her form as She-Ra. This eventually allows her to join the rebellion. Meanwhile, in the Dread Zone, Catra is named Force Captain by Horde leader Hordak, much to Shadow Weaver's displeasure.

In addition, Adora's sword was built using founder technology, since it is connected to the sword, it is also affected by the virus. Mica and Entrapta lock them up to be on the safe side while they look for a solution. Meanwhile, Bow is looking for his friends who have been separated from him. However, Glimmer, Bow and Swift Wind, who has now learned to speak, arrive at the castle and convince Adora to come with them. In the meantime, Entrapta decrypts the crystal, which is what is known as a data crystal, and discovers that the founding technology is hidden in Etheria itself. The rune stones found in the different kingdoms are just a means of accessing them. With Hordak's consent, Catra takes Shadow Weaver's Black Runestone , which can be used to perform black magic . This reacts very angry and attacks Scorpia and Entrapta before Catra destroys her mask, which is why she can no longer fall back on her powers. Adora decides to pay Madame Razz a visit to finally get answers about Mara. However, Madame Razz is confused and believes she is in the past and confuses Adora with Mara. Madame Razz first met Mara in the past when she was studying the magic of the planet for a secret project called the Heart of Etheria. During her time in Etheria, Mara learns to use magic, but she also discovers the secret of the project. Since this could in truth be devastating, she sacrificed her life to stop it. Madame Razz leads Adora to Mara's regained ship, where Mara recorded and left a message for her successor at the suggestion of Madame Razz. Mara explains in the message that the heart of Etheria is a weapon that siphons the magic of the planet and is housed in the core of Etheria. Mara was able to prevent the activation of the weapon and thus the destruction of Etheria in time by hiding the planet in the dimension of Despondos. She wanted to ensure that no one would ever find the weapon. At the end of her message, Mara warns Adora not to trust Light Hope, as she was reprogrammed by the founders with the order to activate the heart.

However, Glimmer insists on using the weapon’s stored magic to defeat the Horde once and for all. Shortly thereafter, Scorpia shows up at the Alliance and asks the Princesses to help her free Entrapta from Beast Island. Glimmer refuses, considering a rescue mission a waste of time while they are still fighting the Horde. Adora and Bow resist and make their way to Beast Island, while Scorpia bonds with the princesses and feels welcome for the first time in their lives.

Meanwhile, Glimmer discovers that Adora and Bow disobeyed their orders, which makes them extremely angry. So she goes to Crystal Castle to talk to Light Hope about the heart of Etheria. Light Hope explains that the weapon can only be activated when Etheria is in perfect balance. For this, the black rune stone only needs to be reunited with its original owner Scorpia.

Entrapta explains that all information about the founders was originally dumped on Beast Island. Therefore, she knows exactly what the heart of Etheria is and explains to Adora: When the weapon is activated, the stored magic comes out of her and will penetrate into She-Ra, since she is the only one who can withstand the force. The magic is then fired through She-Ra's sword. You leave Beast Island and return to Bright Moon, where Adora immediately makes her way to Crystal Castle to stop the gun. Meanwhile, Double Trouble has switched sides and helps Glimmer along with Scorpia to get into the Dread Zone, where Scorpia's rune stone is still missing. Double Trouble then reports to Hordak that Catra lied to him and sent Entrapta to Beast Island.

She is forced by Light Hope to help her and opens a portal that is supposed to bring Etheria back to its original dimension. Adora tries to get through to Light Hope, who has a defect and is wavering between her old and newly programmed version. She claims that Mara would not want this and that Adora is not as strong as her. When the magic of the weapon penetrates Adora, she manages to destroy her sword and thus stop the weapon from working. Light Hope thanks Adora and is destroyed shortly afterwards. Shortly thereafter, Horde Prime arrives on Etheria and captures Catra, Hordak, and Glimmer. Horde Prime has Hordak taken away to be renewed as punishment for his behavior. Then he wants to destroy Etheria, but Catra can dissuade him when she tells him about the heart of Etheria.

Samantha Nelson, an editor of The Verge website , praised the main character Catra as "the best antihero character in an animated series since Zuko, " but criticized that elements of the series were already in Steven Universe , Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra occurred, she also criticized the "superficial plot" of the first episodes.

Darren Franich of Entertainment Weekly described the production as a "funny-wonderful (...) fantasy series that would be fun for all children, regardless of gender," but criticized some "monotonous" moments, the "predictable" finale of the first season as well as the occasional "flat" animation. At the same time, he saw some current tensions in American politics reflected in the series, as it shows "a coalition of liberal thinkers" that is "in disarray due to a defeat by a villain years ago".

Dave Trumbore, an editor at the Collider website , called She-Ra and the Rebel Princesses "visually exciting," "emotionally charged," "unexpectedly hilarious," and one of the "best new series" of the year. IGN's David Griffin praised the series as a successful reboot of the franchise, but claimed that Adora's time with the Horde should have been covered in order to better develop her character.

David Betancourt the Washington Post praised the "excellent" Speaker Series, in particular Lorraine Toussaint , and the title song Warriors of Aaliyah Rose , which he positively with the theme music of Netflix productions Daredevil , The Crown and Narcos compared.

Some users considered the new design of the figure to be “too unsexy ” or not “ erotic enough”, while other users praised the series because it “avoided sexualising a children's program ”. J. Michael Straczynski , who co-created the title character of the original series, said he could understand if She-Ra was viewed as the ideal woman through the “lens of adolescent interest”, but this was not his creative intention. The controversy resulted in many fan drawings , mostly made by young women, who were inspired by the negative reviews of the new design of the figure to improve their profile and reputation.
