Amanda Joy Michalka (born April 10, 1991 in Torrance , California ), also called AJ , is an American actress , singer and instrumentalist . She is best known as one half of the duo Aly & AJ , the other half of the duo is her older sister Alyson Michalka .

Life

Michalka grew up in Seattle , Washington, and Southern California with her sister, Alyson Michalka. Her mother Carrie plays in a Christian band. She has been playing the piano since she was 5 and the guitar since her early youth . She is a devout Christian.

Career

In March 2006, she and her sister made her acting debut in the Disney film Party Girls on a Mission . She also starred in the MTV film Super Sweet 16: The Movie . In 2009 she had a supporting role in Peter Jackson's film In My Heaven .

Michalka and her sister together form the pop duo 78violet (formerly Aly & AJ). In August 2005 the album Into the Rush was released in America , in September 2006 Acoustic Hearts of Winter and in July 2007 Insomniatic .

The sisters also sang the theme song No One for the movie Die Eisprinzessin .
