The series takes place in 1962 and 1963 and revolves around the experiences of 11-year-old Oliver Beene, who lives with his family in Queens . Since the series takes place in the past, the "adult" Oliver (voice of David Cross ) tells the things that happened then as a voice-over from his perspective, which is why the series is often compared with the wonderful years .
