Wendy Makkena (born October 4, 1958 in New York City , New York ) is an American actress , best known for her role as sister Mary Robert in Sister Act and Sister Act 2 .

Career

Wendy Makkena was trained in classical music . She began playing the harp at the age of eight , and at the age of ten she also appeared as a harpist at Carnegie Hall . She studied both the harp and ballet until fifteen , until she had to choose one of the two: she decided to continue ballet. Makkena completed her dance and acting training at the Juilliard School in New York , where she also danced for the New York City Ballet . An accident at the age of 18 forced her to give up the ballet.

She began her acting career in 1982 with the off-Broadway appearance on Divine Five . Her first television appearance was in the US series California Clan in 1984, where she played the role of Katie Timmons . Her Broadway debut in 1987 in the play Pygmalion was followed by her first film appearance in 1988 with John Sayles ' Eight Men and a Scandal . In 1992, she had her best-known role in the comedy Sister Act as the shy but singing novice Sister Mary Robert - a role she re-embodied in the 1993 sequel Sister Act 2 - On a Divine Mission . She has had several guest appearances on television series such as New York Cops - NYPD Blue , Law & Order , Monsters, and Just in Case Amy and Navy CIS . Wendy Makkena made other film appearances in Air Bud - Champion on Four Paws (1997) and in Finding North (1998). Since then she has appeared in various American series such as The Job , Oliver Beene , the CBS comedy Listen Up (2004) Ghost Whisperer - Voices from Beyond (2006), Dr. House (2007), CSI: Vegas (2007) and The Mob Doctor (2012-2013).

Wendy Makkena, married to acting teacher Bob Krakower since 1997 , has one child and lives in New York. Her mother is a New York astrologer .
