Sister Act - A heavenly career

Sister Act 2 - In Divine Mission is an American comedy film from 1993. The film was made as a continuation of the surprise hit Sister Act - A heavenly career filmed the previous year .

action

At the request of her nun friends, the bar singer Deloris van Cartier throws herself into the traditional costume again in order to teach an unconventional school class music with her unconventional manner. Because of the lax music lessons they have received so far, the students do not have too much interest in the way music is taught there. Instead, they tend to prefer rap or reggae . Deloris discovers that some of the students are quite talented singers and can persuade them to re-establish the once very successful school choir. The class slowly learns to develop a sense of togetherness and believes in themselves and the choir. Meanwhile, however, trouble threatens from another side: The administrative director Mr. Crisp wants to close the school in order to be able to sell it. When the nuns happened to find a couple of trophies from a music competition in the attic of the school, they developed a plan: If the choir wins this competition again, there would be no reason for the school inspectorate to actually close the school.

Reviews

With regard to the box office results as well as the opinions of the film critics and the relatively small number of nominations (only two) for less important film awards , Sister Act 2 - In Divine Mission could not build on the great success of the previous film.

The lexicon of international films writes: "A bland infusion of the successful film" Sister Act - A Heavenly Career ", which laboriously pulls out nothing in terms of plot and spreads penetrating educational" wisdom ". Even the charm and playfulness of the black star Whoopi Goldberg are not used profitably for the audience. "

Cinema assesses the film as follows: "The comedy tailored to Whoopi Goldberg is just a bland infusion of the lively first work."

Moviemaster says: "" Sister Act 2 "is of course again equipped with a lot, a lot of music and good choir arrangements, but unfortunately you can tell in the film that the makers said it would go either way, good or bad . And so much of the wit, the freshness and spontaneity of the first part falls by the wayside. Whoopi on a divine mission, it could have been better ... "

The German Film and Media Assessment FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the rating "valuable".
