Peter Mennigen (* 1952 in Bonn ) is a German comic and novelist .

Life

Peter Mennigen completed an art degree in Cologne. After completing his studies, he has been working as an author since 1977. He worked for a long time as the main author of the long-lived comic series Ghost Stories and also wrote numerous other comic series for the Bastei publishing house . He also appeared as a comic book author for Alf , Lucky Luke , Isnogud , Prince Eisenherz , Count Duckula and numerous other series. Mennigen also wrote adaptations of films and television novels as well as radio plays and television scripts.

In 1977 Peter Mennigen took over the weekly series "Ghost Stories" at Bastei. Shortly afterwards he worked on other series such as Phantom , Bessy , Lasso , Silberpfeil or Conny . The changeover of the publishing house from a pure comic book licensee to a comic producer was a success. That is why the publisher continuously expanded the range of programs in the years to come. It was no longer limited to the continuation of licensed series, but increasingly developed its own comic series, such as Vanessa , Arsat or Manos - The Demon Hunter . Peter Mennigen wrote the majority of the scripts for these mostly weekly or bi-weekly issues. The author cites the high points of this phase as the collaboration with Esteban Maroto on Manos, with Morris on Lucky Luke and with Jean Tabary on Isnogud.

After the death of the publisher Gustav Lübbe in the early 1990s, Bastei underwent restructuring. In the course of this, the youth editorial team was almost completely dissolved, the in-house productions were initially reduced to a minimum and later discontinued entirely. At this point, Peter Mennigen had already expanded his field of activity and wrote books and radio plays. He also wrote scripts for television.

In the years before and after the turn of the millennium, Mennigen mainly worked for Egmont and Ehapa Verlag ( Disney title) and Ravensburger Verlag . During this time he also worked with international teams on behalf of the "European Union". He was responsible for the conception and / or content of these Europe-wide projects.

This was followed by a long-term collaboration with WWF and WDR , from which many “ Käpt'n Blaubär ” stories emerged. At the time, he also wrote scripts for TV series on behalf of RTL , RTV and Nickelodeon .

In 2002 Peter Mennigen produced a film for the first time, which premiered at the "Munich Film Festival" and was broadcast several times on German television.

Since the early 2000s the author has written various self-produced series such as B. "Jessy" for Panini .

When Tigerpress Verlag was planning a new edition of Bastei's "Ghost Stories" in 2008, Peter Mennigen conceived the character of " Malcolm Max ", a demon and vampire hunter in Victorian London. The first two stories were produced as radio play supplements for the ghost reprints. From 2011 the Malcolm Max radio plays appeared in the series " Geister-Schocker " by Romantruhe-Audio . In March 2013 the first Malcolm Max comic album was released by Splitter Verlag. The Frankfurt artist Ingo Römling was responsible for the graphic implementation .

In parallel to his work on Malcolm Max, Mennigen wrote scenarios for the e-book and audio book series " Cotton Reloaded ", which was newly conceived by Bastei and published from 2012 onwards .
