Steven Universe is an American animated series created by Rebecca Sugar for Cartoon Network . It is the coming-of-age story of the boy Steven Universe, who lives in the fictional beach town with the "Crystal Gems", Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl, three magical humanoid aliens. Steven, half-gem, half-human, goes on adventures with you and his friends and helps the Gems to protect the earth from their own people. The first episode was broadcast in the USA on November 4, 2013, and premiered in German-speaking countries on August 23, 2014.
Sugar developed the series while she was still working as a storyboard artist for Adventure Time with Finn and Jake . Steven Universe is the first series in the station's 23-year history to be created by a woman.
The series consists of five seasons. The first season consists of 52 and the second of 26 episodes, then an episode consisting of six Internet short episodes was created, the third and fourth season each consist of 25 full episodes and then another episode consisting of five Internet short episodes was produced. A fifth season of 32 episodes aired from May 2017 to January 2019. After that, the plot was continued in Steven Universe: The Film (2019), which in turn was continued in the 20-part final series Steven Universe Future .

The series follows Steven Universe, who grows up in the coastal town of Strandstadt in the care of the three "Crystal Gems" Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl - three beings who use their magical powers to protect the earth from monsters. Over time it becomes clear that the Gems and Monsters, which are corrupted Gems in turn, belong to the survivors of a long-gone interstellar war. As the series unfolds the story behind this war, it explores Steven's childhood experiences with father Greg Universe, girlfriend Connie, and the rest of Beach Town, as well as the story of Steven's mother, Rose Quartz, a gem that gave up its existence to be able to produce Steven. As the series progresses, it turns out that she was Pink Diamond. The Diamonds, in turn, are the matriarchs of the Gems. During the series, the meaning of the diamonds (consisting of pink, blue, yellow and white diamond) is also explained further. At the end of the fifth season, Steven heals the corrupted gems with the help of the Diamonds, so that they return to their true forms.

- Steven Universe
Steven is half human and half gem. He lives in the temple with the three gems Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl. Together they form the "Crystal Gems" and protect the earth. His mother, Rose Quartz, died sacrificing her life for Stevens. His father Greg Universe owns the local car wash. Steven can use his mind to erect a protective shield and jump high. He is also unusually strong for a boy his age.
- Garnet
After Rose's death, she took over the management of Crystal Gems. She seems emotionless. In the course of the series it turns out that it is a gem-fusion of the Gems Ruby, which shows a lot of emotions, and the quiet Sapphire. As a result of this merger, she has two gemstones that she carries in the palms of her hands. Your weapons are a pair of gloves.
- amethyst
Amethyst is a gem that came from kindergarten on earth. It's very messy, so the room in the temple looks like a garbage dump. Her weapon is a whip and she carries her gem in her chest. Although gems don't actually need food, she loves to eat, especially junk food.
- Pearl
Pearl has a lot of feelings for Rose and was initially the only one who knew the secret of her identity. She is very orderly and therefore often argues with amethyst. From the gemstone she wears on her forehead, she can conjure up her weapon, a spear.
- Peridot
She was the opponent of the Crystal Gems, but in the course of the series she changes sides and befriends them. She comes from the Gem homeworld and was commissioned by Yellow Diamond to check the state of the cluster that is in the earth. Unlike most gems, she is physically weak and initially used electronic parts that were attached to her body. After becoming a friend of Stevens, she discovered that she had the power to levitate metallic objects.
- Connie Maheswaran
She is Steven's friend and a very talented swordsman. Her parents are very strict and don't know what Steven and the Crystal Gems are doing. In the course of the series, she receives Rose's sword from Steven so that she can protect him. She had poor eyesight, which Steven cures and only carried the frame for a while until she had spoken to her mother.
- Lapis Lazuli
She is a gem from the Gem homeworld who was trapped in a mirror for thousands of years because she was believed to be a homeworld gem. At first she was very aggressive towards the Crystal Gems, as it was their fault that Lapis was not released from the mirror. She made friends with the Crystal Gems over the course of the series and currently lives in a barn with Peridot. She is neutral towards the Crystal Gems, although she is mainly friends with Peridot and Steven.
lion
This pink lion has followed Steven since meeting him on a Gem mission. He seems to know a lot about Steven but is not always reliable. In his mane is a vast land, in the middle of which is a tree where Rose's possessions are attached. Since this place is made for gems, there is no oxygen there either. Leo can run fast and, with his roar, create a portal through which one can warp.
- The diamonds
The Gems are ruled by 4 Diamonds. The most noticeable feature of them is that they are much larger than the other gems and consequently more powerful. There are Blue Diamond, Yellow Diamond, Pink Diamond and White Diamond. Each of them has its own Pearl as a servant. When Pink Diamond was to take over the earth, she began to love life and faked her fragmentation in the form of Rose Quartz. This upset the other Diamonds, particularly Blue Diamond, who was a maternal friend of hers. Only in the fifth season does the truth come to light and Steven can even convince White Diamond to rule more justly.
