Uzoamaka "Uzo" Aduba (born February 10, 1981 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American actress . She played her best-known role from 2013 to 2019 in the television series Orange Is the New Black , for which she won two Emmy Awards and five Screen Actors Guild Awards , as well as two Golden Globe nominations.

Life

Uzo Aduba was involved in several Broadway productions early in her career . She is also known for her portrayal in Translations of Xhosa at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in 2003. She began her career as an actress on television in 2012 with an appearance on the television series Blue Bloods - Crime Scene New York . The short film Sing Alone followed in 2013 . However, she only gained greater fame through the role of the slightly disturbed prison inmate Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren in the Netflix- produced series Orange Is the New Black . After she was part of the supporting cast in the first season, her supporting role was expanded to a leading role for the subsequent seasons. For her embodiment of this role, Aduba received the Emmy Award for best guest actress in a comedy series in 2014 and the Screen Actors Guild Award for best actress in a television series - comedy in 2015 .
