Olaf Heine Johannessen (born July 8, 1961 in Tórshavn , Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese actor .

Life

Olaf Johannessen comes from a theater and actor family. His father is the Faroese theater director Eyðun Johannessen and the actress Annika Johannessen is his sister. In the mid-1980s he trained as an actor at the drama school at Odense Teater . He then went to the Aarhus Teater , where he was a permanent member of the ensemble a. a. Fulfilled leading roles in Lykke-Peer (1988), Roberto Zucco (1991) and Hamlet (1992). From 1994 to 2004 he was a member of the ensemble at the Royal Danish Theater in Copenhagen for ten years . From 1999 he began to work in parallel in film and TV productions, a direction that he intensified after leaving the Royal Theater.

In particular through the Danish TV series Forbrydelsen , Olaf Johannessen took on the role of Prime Minister Kristian Kamper. known to a wider audience in 2012. For this role he was awarded a Robert by the Danish Film Academy in spring 2013 . The Robert is widely regarded as the Danish equivalent of the Oscar. In a newspaper interview in 2012, Olaf Johannessen explained that when preparing the role, in addition to the figure of the former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Danish politicians such as Anders Fogh Rasmussen , the figure of the then Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg served as a model for rehearsing the role of Kristian Kamper would have.

This award, endowed with 50,000 Danish kroner, is awarded by the Association of Danish Theater Journalists and Critics and is arguably the most important Danish theater award. Olaf Johannessen received the nomination for his outstanding performance of Arnolphe in Molières The School of Women in Copenhagen's Grønnegårds Teatret that year.

On December 17, 2014, Olaf Johannessen was awarded the Danish Theater Cup for the best acting performance of 2014 by the Association of Danish Theater Journalists. He received it for his role as Nazi desk clerk Adolf Eichmann in Adam Price's play Samtale før døden ( Conversation Before Death), which was on the program at Betty Nansen Teatret in Copenhagen in autumn 2014.

At the beginning of 2015 Olaf Johannessen was again on stage at the Betty Nansen Teatret, this time in the role of Hendrik Höfgen in the play Mefisto, which is based on Klaus Mann's novel Mephisto .
