Richard Donald Crenna (born November 30, 1926 in Los Angeles , California , † January 17, 2003 ) was an American actor who was occasionally active as a television director.

Life

The son of Italian immigrants began as a role speaker in the radio plays Boy Scout Jamboree (1937), A Date With Judy (1946) and Our Miss Brooks (1952). In the course of his later film career, he starred in films such as Gunboat on the Yangtze Kiang , Wait Until It's Dark , Hot Blood - Cold Blood and Flamingo Kid . His most famous role was that of Colonel Trautman in the first three Rambo films. He later parodied this role himself in Hot Shots! The second attempt .

Crenna also worked as a director for television. He made his debut between 1963 and 1964 when he directed several episodes of The Andy Griffith Show . In 1966 he made his first feature film, also a television production. His last directorial work was in 1983.

Crenna received a posthumous cinematic appreciation of his person in 2003 in the series For All Cases Amy ( Judging Amy ), where a funeral service is organized for the businessman he portrayed, Jared Duff, the fiancé of Maxine Gray, after his death. His last role was Crenna in the transmitted in April 2003 TV movie Out of the Ashes at the side of Christine Lahti and Beau Bridges .

In 1988 Crenna received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame . He died of pancreatic cancer in Los Angeles at the age of 76 . His son Richard Anthony Crenna is also an actor.
