Fire from space (Original title: A Fire in the Sky ) is an American disaster film from 1978 . It was directed by Jerry Jameson and is based on a story by Paul Gallico .
action
The young astronomer Jennifer Dreiser accidentally discovers a new comet that is hurtling towards earth. Your colleague, the astronomer Dr. Jason Voight, has calculated that the comet will hit near the city of Phoenix in eight days and immediately informs the Governor of Arizona. Voight succeeds in convincing the governor of the impending danger, but he only plans to destroy the comet far out in space with a nuclear missile, and he refuses to evacuate Phoenix. Only when the comet failed to detonate did he decide to evacuate the city's residents. With the help of the US military, it is actually possible to completely evacuate the city at the last moment. Shortly afterwards the comet strikes and the metropolis of Phoenix is completely destroyed.
