Michael McCusker

Michael Allen McCusker (born June 23, 1966 ) is an American film editor .

Life

Michael McCusker was already writing and producing films during his time at New Canaan High School , so he graduated from Emerson College in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in film theory and production. He then moved to Hollywood , where he initially worked as a production assistant, including on the animated series The Simpsons . He began to be interested in film editing and first assisted the television series Planet Rules before joining the Motion Picture Editors Guild and starting a long-term collaboration with David Brenner . He assisted Brenner among others on Independence Day , Identity and The Day After Tomorrow .

When director James Mangold asked Brenner if he could edit his latest film, it was not available, so McCusker was given the opportunity to edit his first own film. With Walk the Line , he was also honored with an Oscar nomination for Best Editing . A second nomination came in 2020 for work on Le Mans 66 - Against Any Chance , together with Andrew Buckland . They also won this award at the 2020 Academy Awards . In 2019 the two received a Satellite Award .
