Joel Edgerton
Joel Edgerton (born June 23, 1974 in Blacktown , New South Wales ) is an Australian actor , screenwriter , film producer and film director .
life and career
Joel Edgerton attended the Nepean Drama School in Sydney before working as an actor in theater and television series. He was nominated for an AFI award for his portrayal of Will in the Australian series The Secret Life of Us .
One of his most famous roles is that of Owen Lars , which he played in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith . Other well-known films in which he played major roles are Lawless - The Story of Ned Kelly (2003) and King Arthur (2004).
In 2005, he voiced the title character in the animated film The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello . In the same year he appeared in the British comedy film Kinky Boots - Man (n) wears boots next to Chiwetel Ejiofor in a leading role, and 2007 in the horror film Whisper .
In 2009 he appeared twice with Cate Blanchett in theater productions in Sydney and New York City . In 2011 he starred in The Thing , the prequel to The Thing From Another World , and the film Warrior alongside Nick Nolte and Tom Hardy . In 2013 he appeared in the 3D movie The Great Gatsby alongside Leonardo DiCaprio . In 2014 he played Ramses II in Exodus: Gods and Kings by Ridley Scott with Christian Bale .
Edgerton starred in two films by director Jeff Nichols in 2016 : in the science fiction drama Midnight Special as State Trooper Lucas and in the biopic Loving as Richard Loving . Especially for his role in Loving , he received very positive reviews after the premiere of the film at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016 .
In 2017 he was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
In 2018, Edgerton starred alongside Jennifer Lawrence in the film Red Sparrow, directed by Francis Lawrence .
He runs his own production company with his brother Nash Edgerton , a stuntman.
