The Hard Word (also The Australian Job ) is an Australian road movie from 2001.

action

The brothers Dale, Shane and Mal are in jail for a jointly committed bank robbery, but this does not prevent them from committing robberies in masked form, as they have a solid alibi . They are helped by the lawyer Frank, who regularly bribes the corrupt director of the prison and two policemen so that the brothers can be released and carry out a series of robberies. Frank is responsible for preparing the raids and managing the booty, but he develops too much greed. He not only wants the now multi-million dollar booty to himself, but has also had an affair with Dale's wife Carol for some time. Frank plans that the three brothers raid the bookmaking market at the national horse race in Melbourne , with the intention of enriching themselves and getting rid of the brothers in the process.

The three will only be released from prison shortly before the planned attack in Melbourne. Dale suspects, however, that Frank not only sleeps with his wife, but also wants to take advantage of the brothers, and plans a double fraud. On the bookmaker's exchange, the brothers attacked the bookmakers with accomplices hired by Frank, but several security guards are killed by one of the accomplices, whereas the three brothers have been careful during their careers to never kill a victim.

After the attack did not go as planned, the brothers flee with the looted money and leave Frank and his accomplices behind at the scene. Dale hides the loot in a restaurant on the highway, but gives Frank a hint during an argument so that Frank manages to find the money.

Six months later, the three brothers opened a jointly operated restaurant selling home-made specialties. Frank and Carol visit the restaurant to tell Dale that Frank and Carol are married and are now on their honeymoon . Carol, on the other hand, has her own plans and shoots Frank after an argument and gives the brothers the money they have stolen from them over the years.
