action

Max Truemont ( Josh Holloway ) wants to start a new life with his fiancée Roxanne ( Sarah Wayne Callies ) and break away from his criminal past as a felon. But then he receives a call from his old cheat buddy Sidney ( Michael Rooker ). He offers Max one last, risky job: kidnapping eight-year-old David Sandborn ( Blake Woodruff ), the son of a wealthy celebrity.

Max agrees, believing that the ransom will enable him to fulfill his dream of having his own restaurant. Disguised as Santa Claus, he kidnaps David from his birthday party. Together with his friend Vince ( Joel Edgerton ), Sidney and his fiancée Roxanne, he hides in a remote cabin in the woods.

As they wait for the ransom, tensions build up in the group, and the little boy doesn't seem as innocent as they think they are. Again and again they hear a whisper advising them to do something, for example Vince Delayo gets Roxanne to sleep with him again, even though she was already pregnant by him once. When Vince realizes that something is wrong with the boy, he wants to kill him, but is targeted by a wolf. On the run from the wolf, he escapes to a frozen lake, into which he breaks and drowns under the ice surface.

Roxanne begins to develop a relationship with David Sandborn, the little boy, and protects him more and more. Max discovers that Catherine Sandborn, the boy's adoptive mother, ordered them to kidnap their son because his whisperings made her life hell and is responsible for the deaths of his adoptive father and nanny. She asks Max to kill the boy and wants to give him $ 50,000 for it. This refuses. The mother explains to him several times that the boy is not a human being, whereas everyone around him dies. At the end of the discussion, she shoots herself. When Max returns to the hut, he wants to kill the boy and therefore shoots him with his rifle, accidentally shooting Roxanne, who wanted to protect the boy. When David, who calls himself a demon , whispers to Max, who is encircled by wolves, to shoot himself, Max shoots past his ear and no longer hears him, which ultimately enables him to kill David with an ax . Then the wolves suddenly retreat and Max can survive. At the end of the film, he gives away the suitcase with the $ 50,000 to a Santa Claus he meets in town.

criticism

“Blake Woodruff convinces David with cynical comments and a cold demeanor as the sly devilish roast. There is little to criticize about the staging - despite [sic] lack of independence, 'Whisper' has a lot of tension and an action-packed finale to offer. "

“Mixture of thriller and horror film with borrowings from the" Omen "series. Atmospherically dense and exciting, also visually quite remarkable. "
