Karim Dulé Hill (born May 3, 1975 in Orange , New Jersey ) is an American actor . He became known as Charlie Young in the series The West Wing - In the Center of Power .

Life

As a child, Hill performed as a dancer and singer in various successful musical productions. After studying at Seton Hall University , Hill initially played minor roles in musicals and movies, such as the Disney production The Secret of Green Lake , in which he plays an onion seller. His breakthrough came with his role as personal assistant to the fictional US President Josiah Bartlet in the television series The West Wing , which he played in seven seasons between 1999 and 2006. The role earned him several Emmy nominations, including Best Supporting Actor . From 2006 to 2014 Hill played the lead role of Burton "Gus" Guster in the television series Psych .

Private life

Hill was married to Canadian actress Nicole Lyn from 2004 to 2012 . Both had already met in Los Angeles in 2000 . They married in the summer of 2004 in Jamaica , which is where their families are from. Besides Hill, Lyn also appeared in The West Wing and Psych .
