BAYSIS , short for Bavarian Road Information System, is an information system that maps the regional road network of the Free State of Bavaria and its essential properties as factual data and geography. It is used to record and maintain the data and its evaluation. BAYSIS is supported by ZIS, the central office for information systems in Bavaria. ZIS has been based at the State Building Directorate in Munich since June 2019, previously at the South Bavaria Autobahn Directorate in Munich.

tasks

The main tasks of BAYSIS are:

  • Provision of specialist information for the Bavarian Road Administration
  • Reference to a defined and current road network
  • Linking of various information areas that previously formed isolated solutions
  • Improvement of the reporting system by unbundling the reporting channels and avoiding multiple reports
  • Reduction of the variety of programs and data redundancy
  • Simplified data provision for third parties by taking into account the specifications of the road information database (ASB) and the object catalog for roads and traffic (OKSTRA)

The ASB is published by the BASt .

Data structure

BAYSIS forms a data pool, the contents of which are linked to one another via a clear classification feature - the so-called network node system.

Network nodes are established at intersections and junctions . These divide a road into individual sections, each of which is identified by a section number. The section numbers are in ascending order along a street. In contrast to the continuous kilometrage, each one starts at zero. This means that changes in length in the network (e.g. as a result of straightening a curve or relocating) only have an effect within a section.
